  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Losing work to Alu

Garrett is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Garrett will take a seat for the third time in five games, with all three absences coming versus right-handed pitchers. He looks as though he could occupy the short side of a platoon in left field with Jake Alu until the Nationals return at least one of Victor Robles (back) or Corey Dickerson (calf) from the injured list.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Not starting Friday

Garrett isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets. Garrett went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout Wednesday against the Giants, but he'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games. Jake Alu will take over in left field and bat ninth.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Heads to bench Tuesday

Garrett will sit Tuesday against the Giants, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Garrett will head to the bench after he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the series opener Monday. Jake Alu will take over in left field and bat ninth against San Francisco.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Back on bench Tuesday

Garrett is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. After opening the season on a six-game hitting streak while going a collective 11-for-23, Garrett went hitless with four strikeouts in six plate appearances over his most recent two starts. The 27-year-old had noticed a surge in playing time of late with five starts in a stretch of six games, but he still appears to be viewed as the Nationals' No. 4 outfielder behind Lane Thomas, Victor Robles and Alex Call.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Starting again versus righty

Garrett is starting in left field and batting seventh for the Nationals in Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. With right-hander Kyle Bradish on the mound for the O's, Garrett will get the nod in left, his third straight start against a righty. Garrett has been extremely productive versus righties and lefties during his limited chances, going 10-for-19 with one home run, three doubles and four RBI.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Two more hits Sunday

Garrett went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Guardians. The 27-year-old has been used sparingly since being called up at the beginning of April, but Garrett has produced when given the chance, collecting at least one hit in all four of his starts and batting .563 (9-for-16) with three doubles and a homer. Alex Call, his main competition for playing time in left field right now, has a paltry .614 OPS on the season, so Garrett's opportunities should be on the rise.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Enjoys huge game Saturday

Garrett went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, two total runs and five total RBI in Saturday's win over Colorado. Garrett was recalled from Triple-A last Sunday and got his second start of the season Saturday. The second-year big-leaguer seized the opportunity, setting career highs with four hits and five RBI to lead Washington to the win. Garrett tallied 32 homers, 106 RBI and 18 steals between the minors and majors last season, so there is certainly potential for some fantasy value. It remains to be seen how much playing time the Nationals will afford him, however.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Recalled from Triple-A

Washington recalled Garrett on Sunday from Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Garrett is the replacement for Corey Dickerson, who is heading to the injured list with a left calf sprain. The outfielder performed well in a 27-game sample with the Diamondbacks last year with an .848 OPS over 84 plate appearances. He could see some playing time in the corner outfield while Dickerson is on the mend.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Optioned to Triple-A

Garrett was optioned to Triple-A Rochester by the Nationals on Tuesday, Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post reports. Garrett landed a major-league contract from the Nats over the winter, but he will not be part of the Opening Day roster. Alex Call is set to begin the 2023 season as the fourth outfielder in Washington.

  • Nationals' Stone Garrett: Signs with Nats

Garrett signed a one-year, major-league deal with the Nationals on Tuesday. Garrett made his MLB debut in August last season and got off to a fast start to his career, slashing .276/.309/.539 through 81 plate appearances. The 27-year-old outfielder will compete for time in the outfield with Alex Call and Lane Thomas, but it's reasonable to expect Garrett to get his fair share of action in the majors this year.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Loses spot on 40-man roster

Garrett was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Garrett made his major-league debut last season and hit well with a .276/.309/.539 slash line, four home runs and three steals in 27 games, but it apparently wasn't enough to retain his spot on the 40-man roster through the offseason.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Retreats to bench

Garrett isn't starting Saturday against the Giants. Garrett is getting a chance to rest after he went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and two runs over the last two games. Pavin Smith will serve as the designated hitter and bat second.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Knocks fourth homer

Garrett went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double and an additional run in a 6-5 loss to the Giants on Friday. Garrett took Carlos Rodon deep in the third inning to get Arizona on the board, and he scored in the fifth after doubling as part of a three-run inning. The rookie had been slumping of late with a 2-for-21 line over his prior eight games following a hot start, though Friday's excellent performance boosted his slash line to .317/.353/.619 as 11 of his 20 big-league hits have gone for extra bases.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Retreats to bench

Garrett is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. Garrett was included in the lineup in each of the Diamondbacks' last three contests, but two of his starts came against left-handed starting pitchers. The righty-hitting Garrett will take a seat Wednesday versus Dodgers righty Michael Grove, and the 26-year-old will likely have to settle for a short-side platoon role moving forward despite producing an excellent 1.112 OPS over his first 45 big-league plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Steals pair, drives in two

Garrett went 1-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases in a 12-6 victory over the Rockies on Sunday. Garret showed aggressiveness on the basepaths and it paid off. After hitting a two-RBI single, he left for second with Christian Walker on third base. The catcher decided to throw to third as Garrett slid safely into second. Walker came home and scored on a close play at the plate made possible by Garrett's high-pressure baserunning. Garrett has been superb since making his big league debut in August. The rookie left fielder is slashing .405/.436/.757 and now has three stolen bases in 11 games played.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Launches third homer

Garrett went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and an additional run scored in a 5-0 win over the Padres on Monday. Garrett continued his hot start to his big-league career, collecting his sixth multi-hit performance in his 10th game. He hit a solo homer off Steven Wilson in the seventh inning for his third major-league homer. Garrett is slashing .424/.424/.818 with seven extra-base hits, five RBI, seven runs and a stolen base through 33 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Goes deep again Monday

Garrett went 2-for-5 with a home run, an additional run and an additional RBI in Monday's 13-7 victory against the Phillies. Garrett brought in Arizona's second run with a single in the fourth inning, and he plated the team's 13th and final run with his solo shot to left field in the eighth. It was his second consecutive game with a long ball, and the multi-hit performance was his fourth in six contests since being called up Aug. 17. Garrett has plenty of power as demonstrated by the 28 homers he slugged in 103 games at the Triple-A level prior to being moved up to the big-league club.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Hits first career homer

Garrett went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 3-2 win over the White Sox on Sunday. Garrett hit his first major-league home run with a solo shot off Dylan Cease in the top of the second that carried over the center field wall. Garrett has played well in the brief opportunities he has been given with the Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old rookie has an OPS of 1.111 in 18 at-bats this season. Garrett appears to be the fourth man in the Diamondbacks outfield, but if he continues to perform he could find himself taking some playing time away from Jake McCarthy down the stretch.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Possible waiver wire pickups

Having spent six years in the Marlins organization before briefly dropping out of baseball in 2020, Garrett finally broke through as a 26-year-old for the Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate this year, earning a call-up last week. He's played more than expected so far, starting four of the team's five games since arriving and collecting multiple hits in three of them. The exit velocities have been consistently high and the strikeouts haven't presented a problem, but of course, we're talking about a tiny sample. Still, as lacking as the outfield has been this year, Garrett is already worth a look in leagues that require five of them, such as standard Rotisserie. If his Triple-A numbers are any indication, he's capable of contributing both power and speed.

  • Diamondbacks' Stone Garrett: Stuck in fourth-outfielder role

Garrett is on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Despite getting off to a hot start to his big-league career with a .400 on-base percentage, three extra-base hits and a stolen base over his first 15 plate appearances, Garrett looks like he'll have to settle for a fourth-outfielder role for now. He'll be on the bench for the third time in four games and is expected to see the majority of his starts against left-handed pitching while Jake McCarthy, Alek Thomas and Daulton Varsho serve as Arizona's regular starters in the outfield versus righties.
