Jones was reassigned Monday to minor-league camp by the Dodgers. Jones was trying to win a spot on the Dodgers' bench this spring, but a .067/.125/.067 slash in 16 Cactus League plate appearances doomed him to the minors. The former Angels and Orioles prospect will all but assuredly open the 2023 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City.... See More ... See Less

Dodgers' Jahmai Jones: Back in action for spring training
Jones (elbow) has appeared in five of the Dodgers' Cactus League games to date, going 0-for-8 with a walk and a run scored. Jones has seen reps at second base in all five of his appearances, so he looks to have made a full recovery from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in late May of last season. The 25-year-old was once a prospect of some repute when he was coming up through the Angels' system, but injuries and poor performance during his time in the majors in 2021 and at the Triple-A level prompted the Orioles to release him last June. Jones joined the Dodgers on a minor-league pact last August and will likely open the upcoming campaign at Triple-A Oklahoma City.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jahmai Jones: Catches on with Dodgers
Jones (elbow) signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on July 23 and was placed on the full-season minor-league injured list. Jones was released by the Orioles in early June, a few days after he underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery. By signing with the Dodgers, Jones will have the ability to conduct his rehab process in a team structure, and depending on how quickly he's able to start throwing again, he could be back to full health for spring training. Jones, 25, appeared in 29 games in the majors between stops with the Angels and Orioles in 2020 and 2021 and slashed .212/.339/.343 in 118 plate appearances at Triple-A Norfolk this season before being cut loose by Baltimore.... Jahmai Jones: Clears release waivers
Jones (elbow) cleared unconditional release waivers and became a free agent Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Jones underwent Tommy John surgery last week and will now hit free agency after being released by Baltimore. Since the 24-year-old was designated for assignment while hurt, the Orioles were forced to place him on release waivers after he went unclaimed on waivers. However, Jones will have the option to re-sign with the Orioles now that he's officially a free agent.... See More ... See Less -
Jahmai Jones: Placed on release waivers
Jones (elbow) was placed on unconditional release waivers by the Orioles on Friday. Jones was designated for assignment by the Orioles last weekend, and the team had to either trade him or release him since he's currently injured. If the 24-year-old goes unclaimed on release waivers, he'll have the option of re-signing with the Orioles.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Designated for assignment
Jones (elbow) was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Saturday. Jones has been at Triple-A Norfolk to begin the season, but he underwent Tommy John surgery Friday and will likely miss the rest of the year. The 24-year-old will cede his spot on the 40-man roster but will likely remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Jones (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Jones was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list in mid-May due to right elbow inflammation, and he'll miss significant time following Friday's procedure. While position players don't usually require as much recovery time following Tommy John surgery, he'll require several months to recover, and it seems likely that he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the 2022 season.... Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Out with elbow inflammation
Jones was placed on the 7-day injured list for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday due to right elbow inflammation, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Jones has been with Norfolk since the start of the season, hitting a modest .212/.339/.343 with two homers and two steals through 27 games. He'll need to get healthy and then improve his performance level if he's to push for a return to the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Optioned to Triple-A
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Jones was in the mix for a major-league roster spot this spring, and he performed well in Grapefruit League action by going 5-for-14 with three doubles, four runs, an RBI, two walks and five strikeouts across seven appearances. He'll begin the year in the minors but should be in consideration for a call-up at some point in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Retreats to bench
Jones isn't starting Saturday's game against Toronto. Jones has gone hitless with a walk and four strikeouts in his last nine plate appearances, and he'll be on the bench for the third time in the last four games. Pat Valaika will shift to second base while Richie Martin starts at shortstop.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Not starting Friday
Jones will be on the bench Friday against Toronto, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Jones has now started every other game at second base for the last nine games. Pat Valaika starts at the keystone Friday, but Jones should return Saturday if the pattern continues.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Takes seat Friday
Jones isn't starting Friday's game against the Rangers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Jones started at second base in Thursday's win over the Rangers and went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. Pat Valaika will start at the keystone while Richie Martin starts at shortstop.... Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Rejoins major-league club
Jones was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. The 24-year-old was demoted to Triple-A last week but will quickly rejoin the Orioles with Ramon Urias (groin) heading to the injured list. Jones is hitting .164/.207/.218 with three doubles, three RBI, five runs and a stolen base in 18 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Back to minors
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Jones has been absent from the starting lineup for three straight games, though he did score the game-winning run as a pinch-runner in Thursday's contest. His demotion will should allow both Ramon Urias and Kelvin Gutierrez to see more regular playing time moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Records first big-league steal
Jones went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 6-3 win over Toronto. It was the first big-league steal of Jones' career. He's shown some speed in the minors, although he didn't top 10 steals in 2019 after reaching 20 in each year between 2015 and 2018. Jones is slashing .176/.222/.235 with three RBI, four runs scored and three doubles in 54 plate appearances since he was called up by Baltimore. He has emerged as a near-everyday presence at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Not starting Saturday
Jones isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Jones had started each of the last four games, and he went 2-for-17 with a double, two runs and seven strikeouts. Jorge Mateo (back/hip) will return to the lineup at the keystone, while Ramon Urias will start at shortstop.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Moves up to big leagues
The Orioles recalled Jones from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Baltimore will shake things up in the infield after losing its 18th straight game Sunday, bringing in Jones and Kelvin Gutierrez from Norfolk while sending Richie Martin to Triple-A and designating Maikel Franco for assignment. Franco's removal from the 40-man roster should open up reps at third base for Ramon Urias and Gutierrez, while Jones will be in the mix for playing time at the keystone if the Orioles elect to shift the hot-hitting Jorge Mateo over to shortstop. Over 289 plate appearances with Norfolk on the season, Jones has slashed .238/.329/.417 with 10 home runs and nine stolen bases.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Returns from injured list
Jones (oblique) was activated off the minor-league injured list Tuesday. Jones hit the injured list in mid-May with a strained left oblique, an injury which was originally expected to keep him out for days rather than weeks. He played just six games for Triple-A Norfolk prior to suffering the injury but could make his case for a big-league call-up if he hits well upon his return, as the Orioles have turned to players like Stevie Wilkerson and Pat Valaika at second base in recent weeks.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Out with oblique strain
Jones hit the minor-league injured list Friday with a strained left oblique, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The Orioles don't seem particularly concerned about the issue, with reports suggesting his absence should last days, not weeks. He hit .227/.333/.591 in 23 games for Triple-A Norfolk prior to suffering the injury.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Sent to minors
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Jones was traded from the Angels to the Orioles at the beginning of February and appeared in 17 spring games, but he'll begin the season in the minors. The 23-year-old hit .143 with one home run and four RBI this spring and has appeared in just three major-league games during his career.... See More ... See Less
