Player Outlook
Jackson Chourio became the fourth teenager to go 20-40 in the past 60 seasons, with Ronald Acuna being the most recent to accomplish the feat in 2017. He was also the first teenager to go 20-20 solely in the upper levels of the minors since Delmon Young in 2005. Chourio's surface stats weren't outstanding early in the year, in part due to the pre-tacked balls the Southern League used in the first half of the season. However, with standard balls back in play, Chourio slashed .324/.379/.538 with 11 home runs, 21 steals and a 13.4 percent strikeout rate in his final 57 games across Double-A and Triple-A, and he doesn't turn 20 until March. He has all the makings of a future first-round pick in fantasy, and he also happens to be an excellent defensive center fielder. The Brewers already have three very capable young defensive center fielders in Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell and Joey Wiemer, but they inked Chourio to a record-setting $80 million contract this offseason, so there are no financial incentives for the team to start him in the minors.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Getting breather Thursday

Chourio is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Pittsburgh. Chourio is 1-for-12 with eight strikeouts over his last four games, so he'll get a breather as the Brewers and Pirates wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. Joey Wiemer will pick up a start in the outfield in Chourio's stead.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: On base four times

Chourio went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, two RBI, three runs and a stolen base in Saturday's 12-5 win over the Cardinals. The rookie outfielder entered the contest with five strikeouts and no hits over his previous 11 plate appearances, but he busted out of that mini slump in a big way Saturday. Chourio has endured some ups and downs through his first 17 big-league games, but he's been productive overall with four homers, four steals, 13 RBI, 10 runs and a .719 OPS.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Goes deep, swipes bag

Chourio went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored, a stolen base and a walk in Monday's loss to San Diego. Chourio belted a two-run shot in the second inning. It was his third long ball of the year and first since April 6. The highly-touted rookie knocked 22 homers with 44 steals in the minors last year and he displayed that impressive power-speed combo Monday. Chourio is now slashing .259/.305/.444 through 59 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Getting Sunday off

Chourio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. He'll exit the starting nine for the second time in 14 games this season while Milwaukee rolls out an outfield of Joey Wiemer, Blake Perkins and Sal Frelick from left to right. Chourio went 1-for-11 with three strikeouts while starting in the first two games of the series in Baltimore.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Productive in win

Chourio went 1-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Reds while also drawing a walk. Chourio drew a walk on five pitches to open the game and proceeded to steal second base before coming home on a Christian Yelich home run two batters later. The right-fielder would then go on to score a second time while also driving in two runs, the first on a single and the second on a sacrifice fly. Chourio has now hit safely in four consecutive games and in 10 of 11 contests overall to open the season. Additionally, he's also recorded at least one RBI in all but three games.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Moves up to leadoff versus righty

Chourio will bat leadoff and start in right field in Wednesday's game against the Twins. Chourio hit leadoff on Opening Day versus a lefty but then batted ninth for the next three games against right-handers. However, he's now been vaulted to the top of the batting order Wednesday versus righty Chris Paddack, with Sal Frelick moving down to the No. 6 spot. Chourio has earned the prime spot by going 6-for-16 with three RBI, a stolen base and a 1:4 BB:K over his first four contests. Frelick, meanwhile, is off to a 1-for-13 start.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Continues piling up hits

Chourio went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's victory over the Mets. The 20-year-old has started all three games the Brewers have played to date, and he has hardly been overmatched, as he reached base twice in all three contests. Chourio hit ninth against right-handed starters Saturday and Sunday after hitting leadoff against a lefty in the opener, and that arrangement will likely continue for the time being. However, he could certainly find himself hitting higher against righties if he continues displaying the skills that made him one of the top prospects in baseball.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Secures first MLB hit

Chourio went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base during Friday's 3-1 win over the Mets. The Brewers trusted their top prospect to lead off in his MLB debut, and he was able to check off plenty of career firsts during Friday's victory. Chourio drew a four-pitch walk during his first big-league plate appearance, which was immediately followed by his first stolen base. He later tallied his first career hit on a single in the top of the fifth inning, and a fielder's choice allowed him to secure his first RBI in the seventh. The 20-year-old outfielder still needs to prove he can succeed consistently against MLB pitchers, but Friday's performance was certainly promising.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: In 'mix' for roster spot

Chourio is "in the mix" to make the Opening Day roster, according to manager Pat Murphy, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Murphy said that Joey Ortiz "has a good shot to make the club" during the same media scrum, so it's noteworthy that the team isn't publicly saying Chourio is likely to make the team. Chourio, who turned 20 earlier this month, is slashing .283/.313/.348 with zero home runs, zero steals, 10 strikeouts and two walks in 48 Cactus League plate appearances. If the Brewers want to give Ortiz regular playing time at third base, that would leave Garrett Mitchell, Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Joey Wiemer competing with Chourio for three starting outfield spots. There is no financial motivation for Milwaukee to send Chourio to Triple-A, but he still needs to earn a spot over the final week of spring training.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Getting ample opportunities

Chourio is 4-for-20 (.200) with a double, an RBI, four runs and a 2:6 BB:K through six games this spring. After reaching base a total of four times over his first two appearances of the spring, Chourio went on an 0-for-10 skid, but he got going again Sunday, going 1-for-3 with a double while walking once and scoring twice. The long-term contract Chourio signed with the Brewers in late November puts him in prime position to open the season as the starting center fielder with the big club, and he is getting plenty of chances to show what he can do, as his 20 at-bats are more than any of his teammates have recorded to date.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Passes physical, deal official

Chourio passed his physical Sunday, making his eight-year, $82 million contract with the Brewers official, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Chourio recently agreed to a record-breaking deal for a prospect and will officially be under a long-term contract with the Brewers before ever taking an at-bat in the majors. The deal has $82 million guaranteed but can max out at $142.5 million over 10 years if he has his options exercised and reaches benchmarks in his contract. He slashed .282/.338/.467 with 22 home runs, 91 RBI, 88 runs and 43 steals over 128 games between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville last season, and he'll have a good chance to make the Brewers' Opening Day roster in 2024 following his new contract.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Deal could max out at $140 million

Chourio's contract with the Brewers could max out at around $140 million over 10 years, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. McCalvy reports that Chourio would be guaranteed at least $82 million over eight years and could net approximately $140 million over 10 years if two team options are exercised and he reaches all of his incentives. The record-breaking contract is expected to become official Friday as long as a physical doesn't raise any red flags. Chourio, 19, hit .283/.338/.467 with 22 home runs and 44 stolen bases between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville in 2023. He'll have a good shot to be part of the Brewers' Opening Day roster in 2024.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Agrees to record-breaking extension

Chourio and the Brewers are expected to finalize an eight-year contract extension worth nearly $80 million Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. The deal, which also includes two team options, is the largest contract ever for a player who has yet to reach the majors, easily topping Luis Robert's six-year, $50 million pact. Chourio, 19, began the 2023 season at Double-A Biloxi and finished it at Triple-A Nashville, slashing .283/.338/.467 with 22 home runs and 44 stolen bases between the two stops. The long-term contract extension greatly increases Chourio's chances of breaking spring training as a member of the Brewers' Opening Day roster.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: To return to Triple-A in 2024

Chourio will open the 2024 season with Triple-A Nashville, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. "It's hard to put a timetable on it for a 19-year-old," general manager Matt Arnold said Tuesday, "but he has a chance to be really special." McCalvy doesn't have a quote to corroborate his definitive sentence about Chourio returning to Triple-A, but given the Brewers' outfield depth chart, it makes sense. Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell, Joey Wiemer and Tyrone Taylor are all under club control, and Milwaukee probably wouldn't want to have Chourio on the big-league roster in a part-time role.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Elevated to Triple-A

The Brewers promoted Chourio from Double-A Biloxi to Triple-A Nashville on Monday. Chourio will join Milwaukee's top affiliate after he ended Double-A Biloxi's season on a high note this weekend, recording at least one hit while getting on base at a .375 clip over his final nine starts. Altogether, the 19-year-old outfielder slashed .280/.336/.467 with 22 home runs and 42 stolen bases across 559 plate appearances for Biloxi. He'll join Nashville for the final week of its regular season and will look to build momentum for a spot on the Brewers' 2024 Opening Day roster.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Putting power on display

Chourio went 12-for-23 (.522) with three home runs, three doubles, six RBI and a 1:2 BB:K over his last five games with Double-A Biloxi. Chourio owned a .699 OPS as recently as July 5, but thanks to his recent surge that number is all the way up to .764. Chourio has been a bit streaky in his first full season at the Double-A level, but he has now racked up 13 homers, 16 doubles and 22 stolen bases over 75 games -- and he still will not turn 20 years old until next March.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Racking up hits at Double-A

Chourio has gone 26-for-81 (.321) with two home runs, 13 RBI, nine steals and a 7:16 BB:K over his last 20 games with Double-A Biloxi. Chourio had trouble making contact against Double-A pitchers after first reaching the level, but his recent run suggests he has figured them out. Chourio will not turn 20 years old until March of 2024, and he remains one of the best -- if not the best -- prospects in all of baseball.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Jacks first Double-A homers

Chourio went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in a game with Double-A Biloxi on Tuesday. Chourio went just 2-for-23 (.087) in a brief Double-A stint at the end of last season, but he recorded the same number of hits in Biloxi's 2023 season opener, and four days later he tallied his first two long balls -- one of them of the walkoff variety -- at his current level. With a number of his fellow prospects graduating, Chourio now finds himself at or near the top of numerous sets of prospect rankings, and he is well on his way to justifying that with a .927 OPS four games into the current campaign.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Doubles twice in exhibition

Chourio doubled twice and walked in Wednesday's exhibition contest against Great Britain. The heralded prospect is spending the spring with the big club, and he showed off his skills Wednesday. He has not appeared in an official spring game, however, which all but confirms he will begin the season in the minors -- likely at the Double-A level.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Struggles in brief Double-A debut

Chourio went just 2-for-23 with 11 strikeouts over six games for Double-A Biloxi to close out the 2022 season. Those six games should have absolutely no bearing on Chourio's prospect standing, as the 18-year-old took two lower levels of the minor leagues by storm this year. If anything, it's healthy for him to have gotten a first look at the more advanced pitching in Double-A. Chourio is an electric player, but he's very young and he has some swing-and-miss in his game that he needs to work through, so the Brewers would be wise not to rush him through the organization. His final line in 2022: .288/.342/.538 with 20 homers and 16 steals in 99 games. Spectacular.
