  • Yankees' Trey Sweeney: Advances to Double-A

    The Yankees promoted Sweeney from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. Sweeney will essentially be filling the roster spot vacated by top Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe, who was advanced to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last Friday. A 2021 first-round pick, Sweeney has thus far spent his entire second professional season at Hudson Valley, with whom he slashed .241/.350/.415 with 14 home runs and 29 stolen bases over 457 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Trey Sweeney: Returns from IL

    Sweeney (lower body) was activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday and returned to action Wednesday for High-A Hudson Valley, starting at shortstop in the club's 5-3 win over Wilmington while going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run. Sweeney was sidelined for about a week and a half due to the lower-body injury. The 2021 first-round pick has appeared in eight games so far this season for Hudson Valley, contributing a .235/.333/.500 slash line.

    High-A Hudson Valley placed Sweeney on its 7-day injured list Tuesday with lower-half tightness. Sweeney's move to the IL is described as precautionary, so he could be in store for a near-minimum-length stay on the shelf. Before being deactivated, the 21-year-old saw action in seven games for Hudson Valley and hit .250 with four extra-base hits and a stolen base across 36 plate appearances.
