Player Outlook
The two things working against Connor Norby for 2024 are his middling defense at second base and in left field and Baltimore's impressive depth. If he were on a team like the White Sox, he could be ticketed for everyday work at second base to start the season and he might even climb to the first or second spot in the lineup. He is a professional hitter and enters his age-23/24 season with a career .295/.362/.498 slash line, 25 home runs, 10 steals and a 21 percent strikeout rate in 147 games at Triple-A. Norby bats right-handed and Oriole Park at Camden Yards had the second-worst overall 2023 Statcast park factor for right-handed batters and was third-worst for righty homers, so the depth chart isn't the only reason he could benefit from a trade. Norby has average speed and could chip in a handful of steals if he is playing every day.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Goes deep in return

Norby went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-6, extra-inning victory versus Miami on Thursday. The 24-year-old was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday to take the roster spot of Jorge Mateo, who was placed on the injured list with an elbow injury. Norby made a strong impression upon his return to the majors, belting a solo shot in the fourth inning and adding an infield single in the ninth. Norby probably isn't going to play every day given Baltimore's infield depth, but he could stick with the big club for a while since Mateo expected to be out for at least several weeks.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Called up Thursday

The Orioles recalled Norby from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. The rookie had been on the taxi squad while the Orioles evaluated Jorge Mateo (elbow), and Norby is now on the active roster after Mateo was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. The 24-year-old Norby will see some reps at second base while Mateo is out, though the team will also use Jordan Westburg at the keystone on days Ramon Urias handles third base. Norby will start at second base and bat eighth in Thursday's series finale in Miami.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Promotion forthcoming

The Orioles will recall Norby from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old was added to the Orioles' taxi squad Wednesday after Jorge Mateo injured his elbow during Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. With an MRI on Wednesday revealing that Mateo dislocated his elbow, he'll be placed on the injured list Thursday, with Norby set to be called up in a corresponding move. Norby went 3-for-14 with a home run and two RBI during his first stint in the majors back in June, and he's posted a .967 OPS through 137 plate appearances since being optioned back to Triple-A.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Out of starting nine again

Norby is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Rays. Norby has now started just four of eight games since his promotion from Triple-A Norfolk, including only two of the previous six contests. With Jorge Mateo's (concussion) return from the 7-day injured list seemingly imminent, Norby could be headed back to Norfolk soon. Jordan Westburg will start at second base Monday while Ramon Urias occupies the hot corner.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Not starting Sunday

Norby is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Norby started in Saturday's 5-0 win, going 1-for-4 while scoring a run. With Norby beginning Sunday's game in the dugout, Jordan Westburg will shift to second base, while Ramon Urias starts at the hot corner against Tampa Bay right-hander Zack Littell. Since being promoted from Triple-A Norfolk on June 3, Norby has gone 3-for-14 with one home run and two RBI.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Norby is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto. Norby started the first two games of the series and cranked his first major league home run (and hit) Tuesday, but he'll begin Wednesday's festivities on the bench. Jordan Westburg will play second base while Ramon Urias gets a start at third base.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Officially promoted to big leagues

The Orioles selected Norby's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. It's the first major-league promotion for Norby, who has batted .286/.374/.510 with nine home runs and seven stolen bases this season at Norfolk. Second base has been Norby's primary position in the minors, although he's seen a little more time in the outfield this season at Norfolk. With Jorge Mateo (concussion) landing on the 7-day injured list, second base is likely Norby's clearest path to playing time. Norby will man the keystone and bat ninth in Monday's series opener in Toronto.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Dealing with wrist issue

Norby was removed from Triple-A Norfolk's game Friday as a precaution due to a left wrist injury, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, but the organization will exercise caution with one of its top prospects. Norby is slashing .275/.360/.497 through 35 games for Norfolk with eight homers, four steals and 26 RBI.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Orioles reassigned Norby to minor-league camp Friday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Norby was limited early on in camp by a side issue but hit well once he got healthy, posting an .806 OPS with one homer. Ultimately, there just isn't space for him on the Orioles' talented roster, so he'll head to Norfolk to play regularly for now.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Set for spring debut Sunday

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Norby (side) will make his spring debut as a reserve in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Norby has been slowed in camp due to slight left side soreness, but the injury shouldn't be anything that prevents him from being ready to go for the start of Triple-A Norfolk's season in April. Hyde didn't say whether Norby would be deployed in the field or eased back in as a designated hitter Sunday, but the 23-year-old is likely to check into the contest in the later innings.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Nearing game action

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Friday that Norby (side) is 3-to-4 days away from his Grapefruit League debut, Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun reports. Norby had previously expressed optimism that he would be ready for game action this weekend, but he's not quite ready for that yet. The 23-year-old could still have time to get ramped up for Opening Day, but he's expected to begin the season back at Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Battling side soreness

Norby is dealing with soreness on his side, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The Orioles don't seem to consider Norby's injury much of an issue, and he's expected to return within a couple of days. Norby is considered one of the better prospects in Baltimore's farm system, but he's unlikely to break camp with the major-league squad given the Orioles' already-crowded infield.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Sits out Sunday

Norby (hand) was held out of the Double-A Bowie's lineup Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Norby exited Saturday's contest with an apparent hand injury after he was hit by a pitch and will be held out for at least one game. The 22-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Climbs to Double-A

The Orioles promoted Norby from High-A Aberdeen to Double-A Bowie on Monday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Norby was one of three top Orioles prospects elevated Monday to Bowie, with outfielder Colton Cowser and infielder Coby Mayo also joining him in making the jump from Aberdeen. The 22-year-old infielder hit .237 with eight home runs, six stolen bases and an 8.8 percent walk rate across 209 plate appearances at High-A.

  • Orioles' Connor Norby: Dealing with swollen eye

Norby is expected to remain out of the lineup at High-A Aberdeen for a few days due to swelling around his eye, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Assuming Norby is able to make his return to the Aberdeen lineup before the end of the weekend, he should avoid a trip to the 7-day injured list. The 21-year-old infielder is hitting .264 with five home runs and four stolen bases across 104 plate appearances at Aberdeen this season.
