Rodriguez was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. Rodriguez will join Atlanta at home after the team claimed him off waivers from Minnesota on May 15. The right-hander has appeared in one major-league contest in 2023, allowing one run on one hit and a walk over two-thirds of an inning against the Cubs on May 12. Rodriguez will slot in as an additional bullpen option for Atlanta, though he carries limited fantasy appeal.... See More ... See Less

Braves' Dereck Rodriguez: Finds work in new organization
Atlanta claimed Rodriguez off waivers from Minnesota on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. Though the Twins optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, the organization seemingly moved him off the 40-man roster at some point thereafter, which made him eligible to be claimed off waivers. Rodriguez will now move on to an Atlanta organization that has had its rotation depth hit hard by the injuries this season, and the 30-year-old right-hander may not have to wait long for a promotion to the big club when a spot starter or long reliever is needed. Prior to his brief stint in the majors with the Twins, Rodriguez accrued a 4.66 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB over 19.1 innings at St. Paul.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Sent to Triple-A
Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Rodriguez was with the big-league club for a full week but made just a single appearance, giving up a run in two-thirds of an inning Friday against the Cubs. Cole Sands will take his place in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Promoted to majors
The Twins selected Rodriguez from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. With Tyler Mahle (elbow) shifting to the 60-day injured list Friday, Rodriguez will fill the open 40-man roster spot. The 30-year-old reliever holds a 4.66 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 19.1 innings in Triple-A. The Twins will likely use him in a multi-inning relief role, but he could also be used as a starter if necessary.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Expected to be called up
Rodriguez will be called up from Triple-A St. Paul by the Twins prior to Friday's game in Cleveland, Gavin Kahn of EnterSports Management reports. It's not clear at this point whose spot on the roster Rodriguez will be taking. The right-hander has posted a 4.66 ERA and 20:10 K:BB over 19.1 innings this year at St. Paul.... See More ... Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Re-signs with Twins
Rodriguez re-signed with the Twins on a minor-league contract Thursday. Rodriguez made two relief appearances for the Twins in 2022 but spent most of the year at Triple-A St. Paul, where he held a 4.75 ERA and 92:32 K:BB over 94.2 innings. The 30-year-old will provide some rotation depth for Minnesota.... See More ... See Less -
Dereck Rodriguez: Joins open market
Rodriguez elected free agency Oct. 6 following the conclusion of the season. Rodriguez was summoned from the minors in April and September, making one appearance for Minnesota during both of his brief call-up periods while giving up five runs (three earned) over 7.2 total innings. The 30-year-old right-hander will be looking to land a minor-league deal with the Twins or another organization this winter.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Goes back to Triple-A
The Twins optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. Fresh off his call-up from Triple-A on Saturday, Rodriguez proceeded to appear in long relief in the Twins' 7-6 loss in the second game of a doubleheader. He was the pitcher of record in the 15-inning loss, covering the final 3.2 frames and allowing two unearned runs. Since Rodriguez tossed 40 pitches in the outing and wasn't likely to be available out of the bullpen for a few more days, the Twins unsurprisingly elected to swap him off the active roster for a fresh arm in right-hander Ronny Henriquez, who was summoned from Triple-A.... Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Joins big-league bullpen
Rodriguez was called up by the Twins on Saturday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez made a single four-inning appearance back in April, allowing three runs. His 5.02 ERA in 89.2 innings at the Triple-A level hardly inspires confidence, but he'll be called on nonetheless with Trevor Megill heading to the COVID-19 injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Remains in organization
Rodriguez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Rodriguez spent two days on the major-league roster earlier in the week, allowing three runs in four innings of relief. He owns a 5.97 ERA and a 15.6 percent strikeout rate since the start of the 2019 season, so it's no surprise to see him pass through waivers unclaimed.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Designated for assignment
Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday. Rodriguez joined the major-league club Wednesday and allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two in four relief innings against the Dodgers. Although the right-hander was able to preserve some of the team's other bullpen arms with his lengthy outing Wednesday, he'll now lose his spot on the 40-man roster after Kyle Garlick's contract was selected by Minnesota.... Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Contract selected by Twins
Rodriguez's contract was selected by the Twins on Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Rodriguez spent the entire 2021 campaign at the Triple-A level and was unable to break camp with the Twins this year after serving as a non-roster invitee during spring training. However, the right-hander will now provide bullpen depth after Jharel Cotton was designated for assignment Wednesday.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Dereck Rodriguez: Inks minor-league deal with Twins
Rodriguez signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Rodriguez has made 51 big-league appearances with the Giants in three seasons, but he pitched exclusively in the minors during the 2021 campaign. He made 22 appearances (19 starts) at Triple-A Albuquerque and logged a 6.51 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 85.2 innings. Given his past major-league experience, it wouldn't be surprising to see the right-hander serve as a non-roster invitee in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Dereck Rodriguez: Gives up five runs in spring start
Rodriguez allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over three innings as he was charged with the loss in Thursday's spring game against the Cubs. Rodriguez allowed two runs in each of his first two Cactus League appearances this year. He struggled early in Thursday's matchup and gave up three runs in the first inning before allowing runs to come across in each of the next two frames. Since Austin Gomber has pitched incredibly well during spring training, Rodriguez's chance at a starting job appears to be slim, but he could still be in contention to serve as a long reliever if he can settle down ahead of the regular season.... Rockies' Dereck Rodriguez: Allows two runs in win
Rodriguez (1-1) allowed two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out two over three innings as he earned the win in Saturday's spring game against the Angels. Rodriguez has now allowed two runs in each of his first two spring outings, but he had much greater command against the Angels on Saturday. He threw 28 of his 41 pitches for strikes, and the only run production came via a two-run home run to Jo Adell in the bottom of the second inning. "If I make my pitch and the location that I want, with the confidence I have, I can get anybody out," Rodriguez said. The right-hander appeared to be in line to compete for a rotation spot as a non-roster invitee this spring, but Austin Gomber is the favorite to win a starting job after a strong start to Cactus League play. However, Rodriguez could still make the roster as a long reliever if he continues to pitch effectively, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.... See More ... See Less -
Rockies' Dereck Rodriguez: Gets minors deal with Rockies
Rodriguez signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies on Monday which includes an invitation to big-league camp, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Rodriguez broke into the league with a 2.81 ERA in 2018, though his 3.74 FIP and 4.56 xFIP that season suggested he'd overachieved by quite a bit. Over the last two seasons, he hasn't pitched at even the level suggested by those numbers, as he owns a 5.94 ERA in 103.0 innings. While he could earn opportunities with the Rockies at some point, adding Coors Field to an already unimpressive recent resume makes him a rather unappealing fantasy option.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Dereck Rodriguez: Outrighted to Triple-A
Rodriguez cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo. Rodriguez made just two appearances for the Giants this season, giving up six runs on 10 hits over four innings of work, before being waived and claimed by the Tigers. He clearly wasn't a major part of Detroit's plans, as he spent the remainder of the season at the team's alternate training site. Now that he's off the 40-man roster, he's even further from making his Tigers' debut.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Dereck Rodriguez: Catches on with Detroit
The Tigers claimed Rodriguez off waivers Monday and optioned him to their alternate training site. After being cast off the Giants' 40-man roster last week, Rodriguez will move on to the organization with whom his father -- Hall of Fame catcher Ivan -- played for from 2004 through 2008. The younger Rodriguez looked like he might become a mainstay in the San Francisco rotation after posting a 2.81 ERA over 21 outings (19 starts) as a rookie in 2018, but his effectiveness has waned over the past two seasons. Since that time, Rodriguez has submitted a 5.94 ERA (5.89 FIP) and a 7.3 K-BB% over 103 innings in the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Designated for assignment
Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the Giants on Wednesday. Rodriguez's struggles date back to last season, as the right-hander owns a 5.94 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 73:39 K:BB over 103 innings spanning this season and last. He notched a 2.81 ERA (3.73 FIP) across 118.1 innings in 2018, so Rodriguez could draw some interest on waivers. Joey Rickard was summoned to the big-league club in a corresponding move.... Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Sent down to alternate site
Rodriguez was optioned to the Giants' alternate training site Monday. Rodriguez got roughed up in relief Sunday as he allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out one over 1.2 innings. As a result, he'll be removed from the 28-man roster, but he'll remain on the taxi squad for the team's current road trip. Outfielder Steven Duggar was recalled from alternate camp in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less
