Player Outlook
Zachary Neto's 2025 was bookended by IL stints; his season debut was delayed until mid-April due to his recovery from right shoulder surgery, and he missed the final few weeks with a left hand strain. In between, the shortstop hit 26 homers and stole 26 bags in 128 games as one of the few bright spots for the last-place Angels. His 26.9 K% and 6.0 BB% last season show that his plate skills still need refinement, but Neto has proven that he can make up for it with a lot of loud contact. In fact, Neto ranked in the top 10 percent of the league last season by Statcast's xwOBA on Contact, and in the top 15 percent of the league in terms of barrel rate and xSLG. Entering his age-25 season, Neto could stand to improve his efficiency on the basepaths, as he's been caught stealing 20 times in 81 career attempts. He's not a true burner by sprint speed, and new manager Kurt Suzuki could tweak the lineup to prioritize OBP in the leadoff spot, potentially limiting Neto's chances to run. That being said, the Angels aren't going to pump the brakes completely on one of their most exciting young talents, a certainty which keeps 30-30 on the table.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Smacks another homer

Neto went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during the Angels' 9-7 loss to the Astros on Sunday. Neto gave the Angels a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning by blasting a two-run shot off Roddery Munoz. It was Neto's second home run of the season, and he'll finish the four-game series against Houston having gone 4-for-17 (.235) with one steal, five runs scored and three RBI.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Launches first long ball Friday

Neto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double against Houston in a 6-2 win Friday. Neto capped the scoring in the victory with a solo shot in the ninth inning. The talented young shortstop went 0-for-5 in the Angels' season opener Thursday, but he turned things around with the two extra-base hits one game later. Neto is among fantasy's most coveted shortstops after recording a .793 OPS with 26 homers and 26 stolen bases over 128 contests last year.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Fine after HBP

Neto was removed from Friday's Cactus League game against the White Sox after being hit by a pitch, but he is OK, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old shortstop was plunked to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but it never seemed to be a serious issue as he remained in to run the bases and recorded a steal. Neto was then replaced by a pinch hitter in a precautionary move, which makes sense given that he recently returned from a wrist sprain that sidelined him for a couple days.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Return to action pushed to Wednesday

Neto (wrist) is now expected to return to game action with the Angels on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto seems to be doing fine after spraining his left wrist while sliding into home plate Saturday against Seattle. The star shortstop took batting practice on the field Monday, and manager Kurt Suzuki said he was impressed with Neto's session. The team initially considered having Neto play in a minor-league game Tuesday but changed course because that contest is an A-ball matchup, which could increase the risk of Neto getting hit by a pitcher with poor command. Instead, Neto is slated to take part in a Cactus League game Wednesday. At this point, it looks like he'll be fine for Opening Day.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Taking batting practice Monday

Neto (wrist) will hit off the tee and take live batting practice Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto also clarified that he sustained a small sprain to his left wrist, not the hand, as previously reported Saturday. The shortstop said that he's feeling good, and he expects to play Tuesday, either in a minor-league game or in the Angels' Cactus League contest versus the Cubs, per Fletcher. Neto should have plenty of time this week to pick up more at-bats and get himself ready for Opening Day.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Lands on injured list

The Angels placed Neto on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Sept. 13, due to a left hand strain. The 24-year-old shortstop hasn't seen the field since Thursday due to the injury. While Neto will technically be eligible to return for the final six contests of the regular season, the Angels will opt to shut down for the rest of the year, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The 24-year-old will close out 2025 with a .257/.319/.474 slash line, 26 homers, 26 stolen bases, 62 RBI and 82 runs in 128 games.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Remaining on bench Sunday

Neto (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Neto sustained a hand injury while taking a swing Thursday and will sit Sunday for the third consecutive game. The Angels have a team day off Monday, so the shortstop will have an extra day to recover before Tuesday's series opener in Milwaukee. Denzer Guzman will pick up another start at shortstop for the Halos.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Out of Friday's lineup

Neto (hand) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Neto seemed to have trouble with his hand after taking a swing Thursday, so the Angels will sit him down Friday as a precaution. Oswald Peraza will pick up a start at shortstop as a result, opening up first base for Logan Davidson.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Receiving rare day off

Neto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. Neto will be getting a rare day off in the series finale, as he had previously started in each of the Angels' last 59 contests. With Neto resting, Oswald Peraza will cover shortstop, and designated hitter Mike Trout will move from the No. 2 spot into the leadoff role.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Goes deep again Tuesday

Neto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in a loss to Texas on Tuesday. Neto had two of the Angels' three extra-base hits in the defeat -- a double to lead off the game and a solo blast to left-center field in the ninth inning. It was the second straight game with a long ball for the young shortstop, and Neto has gone deep eight times over 23 games in August. He's added 17 RBI, 10 runs, two stolen bases and a .247/.320/.584 slash line so far this month.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Ends power drought

Neto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a two-RBI double during Sunday's 8-5 win over the White Sox. Neto had gone 17 consecutive games without a round tripper, a dry spell that tied his season long, before tagging Sean Burke for a solo shot in the sixth frame Sunday. The performance marked Neto's first game since June 24 with multiple RBI. In his last 10 games, Neto is 10-for-37 (.270) with nine RBI and three runs scored.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Scores thrice, swipes bag in win

Neto went 2-for-6 with one RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Phillies. Neto got the Angels on the board with an RBI single in the second inning and came around to score in the second, fourth and seventh frames. The shortstop is riding an eight-game hitting streak while hitting safely in 11 of his past 12 contests overall, with the latter stretch including six extra-base hits, five RBI, 16 runs scored and four steals. For the season, he's slashing .281/.328/.488 with 15 home runs, 35 RBI, 65 runs scored and 18 stolen bases across 344 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Goes deep Friday

Neto went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in a 6-5 win against Arizona on Friday. Neto helped his team get off to a fast start when he crushed a 447-foot solo homer to lead off the bottom of the first inning. It was the second straight game with a long ball for the talented young shortstop, and he finished with multiple hits for the third straight contest. Neto is up to 15 home runs and 16 stolen bases on the campaign, making him one of just 11 big leaguers so far this season to reach 15 in both of those categories.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Productive in Thursday's loss

Neto went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two total runs scored in Thursday's 11-4 loss to the Rangers. Neto has collected two homers and four multi-hit efforts over his last eight games. Those two homers have been solo shots, accounting for all of his RBI in that span, and he's added 11 runs scored from atop the Angels' lineup. Neto continues to be consistent at the plate with a .273/.318/.485 slash line, 14 homers, 31 RBI, 57 runs scored and 16 stolen bases over 74 games this season. The one downside in his recent run of success has been an uptick in strikeouts, which he has 10 of over his last five games.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Back in lineup Tuesday

Neto (shoulder) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game versus Atlanta. Neto missed each of the previous four starts with a jammed right shoulder. However, he entered Sunday's game against the Nationals as a pinch hitter and is back in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener in Atlanta.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Returns to field in loss Sunday

Neto (shoulder) went 0-for-2 and was caught trying to steal a base in Sunday's extra-innings loss to Washington. He entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and remained in the game at shortstop. Neto hasn't started any of the Angels' past four games due to a jammed right shoulder. However, he entered as a pinch hitter during all three games of the weekend set against the Nationals, going 0-for-4 during that span. More promisingly, Neto remained in the contest to play shortstop Sunday after pinch hitting for Kevin Newman in the seventh frame and made one uneventful putout on defense. On Neto's attempted steal of second base in the ninth, he slid into the bag feet-first, something he's practiced this week after jamming his shoulder on a theft attempt Tuesday. All signs point toward Neto being back in the starting lineup shortly -- possibly for the Angels' next game, which takes place Tuesday in Atlanta.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Remaining on bench Sunday

Neto (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto will miss a fourth consecutive start after he jammed his right shoulder while attempting to steal a base Tuesday versus Boston. However, the 24-year-old appeared as a pinch hitter in both of Friday's and Saturday's contests, which indicates that he isn't dealing with a serious injury. Kevin Newman will make another start at shortstop for the Halos on Sunday.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Out of lineup again Saturday

Neto (shoulder) isn't in the starting lineup against the Nationals on Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Neto is beginning on the bench for a third straight game after jamming his shoulder while attempting to steal a base Tuesday. The 24-year-old did appear as a pinch hitter Friday, striking out in the seventh inning, but he didn't play the field following that at-bat. Neto may be available off the bench again Saturday, though he'll likely need to be able to throw without pain before returning to work on defense. Fletcher notes that Neto did throw a bit Saturday and is hoping to return to the lineup Tuesday in Atlanta.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Out of lineup, will undergo MRI

Neto (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Red Sox, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Neto jammed his right shoulder on a stolen base attempt in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning win and was removed from the contest in the ninth after making a wild throw. His injury is to the same shoulder that he had surgically repaired last November, and he is scheduled to undergo an MRI, per Sam Blum of The Athletic. The Angels could have more information on Neto's status after Wednesday's contest. Scott Kingery will fill in at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • Angels' Zach Neto: Battling jammed shoulder

Neto jammed his right shoulder during Tuesday's win over Boston, Greg Beacham of The Associated Press reports. Neto suffered the injury while attempting to steal second base during the eighth inning. He then made a wild throw to first base during the ninth frame, so the Angels pulled him as a precaution. The severity of his injury remains unknown, though the team may have more information ahead of Wednesday's series finale.
