  Leasure was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement Saturday, retroactive to July 17, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. Leasure last appeared in a game Sunday when he gave up four runs on four hits and a walk over one inning against the Pirates. He'll now be forced to miss at least 15 days. In a corresponding move, left-hander Sammy Peralta was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte.

• White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Struggling since return to majors

  Leasure allowed one earned run on one hit across one inning to earn a hold in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Twins. He still earned his ninth hold of the season despite serving up a solo homer to Matt Wallner. Leasure has made two appearances since rejoining the big-league club Monday, though he's given up three homers and five earned runs. The White Sox may be interested in continuing to give Leasure looks in high-leverage situations to aid his development, but he's allowed at least one earned run in five of his last 10 outings.

  The White Sox recalled Leasure from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Leasure was optioned nearly a month ago following a rough stretch in which he allowed six runs over his final 3.2 innings out of the bullpen prior to his demotion. He held a 2.52 ERA before the string of blowups, albeit with a 22:14 K:BB across 25 frames. Leasure is a candidate for high-leverage innings eventually but could be eased into such situations as he returns to Chicago's bullpen.

Leasure earned a high-leverage role with a 2.52 ERA through his first 26 outings this season, but he'll head to the minors after giving up six runs in his past four outings. The right-hander is a decent bet to rejoin Chicago later in the summer, especially if the club offloads any bullpen pieces ahead of the trade deadline.

  Leasure allowed one hit and struck out one across a scoreless inning in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Leasure is consistently working in high-leverage roles, with each of his last four appearances coming in the eighth inning or later. He's turned in three scoreless performances in that span, though he did blow a lead April 28 by allowing two earned runs to the Twins. Leasure also hasn't been particularly dominant overall, maintaining a 9:6 K:BB in 14 innings of work for the season. Still, he has one of the White Sox's five total saves and could be the choice to close games out when Michael Kopech is used in high-leverage situations rather than being reserved for save situations.

Leasure was acquired by the White Sox at the trade deadline last season and reached Triple-A Charlotte prior to the close of the campaign. His surface stats weren't particularly impressive, but he did manage 23 punchouts across 13.1 innings of work at the level. With a fastball that hits triple digits, Leasure has the upside to be a high-leverage reliever. Given that the White Sox's bullpen is wide open, he may work his way into a setup -- and potentially even closer -- role as early as 2024.
