  • Red Sox's Andrew Politi: Returns from IL

Triple-A Worcester reinstated Politi (elbow) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Politi was immediately put to work in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to Charlotte, retiring two of the three batters he faced while serving up a two-run home run. The 28-year-old had been out of commission for Worcester for nearly six weeks due to right elbow inflammation.

  • Red Sox's Andrew Politi: Out with elbow issue

Politi was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday with right elbow inflammation, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Politi presumably suffered the injury during his last appearance April 14, when he surrendered four runs across 1.1 innings. The 27-year-old will be sidelined for at least a week but seems likely to miss more time since he's dealing with an elbow issue.

  • Red Sox's Andrew Politi: Returns to Red Sox

Politi cleared waivers and was returned Tuesday to the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

After being selected by the Orioles in the Rule 5 Draft, Politi is back where it all started. The 26-year-old right-hander pitched to a sharp 2.34 ERA and 83:22 K:BB in 69.1 innings last season between Boston's Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. He mostly struggled in O's camp this spring.

  • Orioles' Andrew Politi: Designated for assignment

Politi was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Monday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Politi was a Rule 5 pick by Baltimore from the Red Sox, and was given a chance to win a spot in the Baltimore bullpen. He'll hit waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he'll be offered back to the Boston organization.

  • Orioles' Andrew Politi: Coin flip to make team

Politi has a 50-50 chance to break camp with the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Kubatko adds the Orioles have been intrigued by Politi's stuff, but he hasn't fared well in spring games with four earned runs allowed over 3.2 innings. He's posted a 7:1 K:BB and hasn't allowed a home run, so there's some reason to be optimistic. As a Rule 5 pick, Politi must be on the Orioles' major-league roster all season, or he would have to be offered back to the Red Sox. With a large number of relievers and some potential starters that won't fit in the rotation, the Orioles will likely make their decision on Politi near the end of camp.

  • Orioles' Andrew Politi: Scooped up by Baltimore

Politi was selected by the Orioles with the 13th overall pick in the 2022 Rule 5 draft.

Politi split time between the Double-A and Triple-A levels as part of the Red Sox organization in 2022. He made 50 appearances (two starts) and converted all eight of his save chances with a 2.34 ERA, 83:4 K:BB and 0.97 WHIP in 69.1 innings. He'll now have the opportunity to earn a big-league opportunity with the Orioles.
