  • Brody Koerner: Heads to open market

Koerner elected free agency Wednesday, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

After the Yankees outrighted him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last week, Koerner ultimately decided to test his luck on the open market. The soon-to-be 28-year-old right-hander reached the majors for the first time in 2021, tossing three innings in two relief appearances for New York.

  • Yankees' Brody Koerner: Added back to 40-man roster

The Yankees selected Koerner's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday and optioned him to the affiliate.

Though he won't be joining the Yankees for their regular-season finale Sunday against the Rays, Koerner will rejoin the 40-man roster after a spot opened up with first baseman Luke Voit (knee) moving to the 60-day IL. Before being designated for assignment in late August, Koerner made two appearances out of the big-league bullpen and gave up an earned run on two hits and two walks over three innings.
