Player Outlook
In 2022, Bobby Witt Jr missed the memo that rookies were supposed to struggle. In 2023, he missed the long-held belief that sophomores slump as pitchers begin to find weaknesses in younger players to exploit them. The young man was the only other player in baseball besides Ronald Acuna Jr to post at least 30 homers and 40 steals in 2023 and finished tied with Corbin Carroll as the sixth most valuable player in standard league formats. Witt Jr contributed to all five categories while excelling in four of them in 2023. The only area of his fantasy future that could stand to improve is his acceptance of walks as he appears to like them as much as his old man hated to dish them out on the mound. If Witt Jr could boost his OBP over .350, he could lead the league in stolen bases in 2024. As you set your draft preferences for 2024, understand Witt Jr may not even be there if you pick as high as 3rd.

  • Royals' Bobby Witt: Three hits in win

Witt went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base during Tuesday's 3-2 win over Toronto. Witt's fifth-inning double proved to be the difference-maker in Tuesday's contest, plating two runs to give the Royals a 3-2 lead they would hold for the rest of the game. The 23-year-old shortstop remains one of baseball's top young stars with a .316/.362/.582 slash line through 105 plate appearances, and he's now logged a base hit in each of his last four games.

  • Royals' Bobby Witt: Notches fourth steal

Witt went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in a 4-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader. Witt also went 1-for-4 in the nightcap. He's hit safely in five of the last seven games, batting .333 (10-for-30) in that span. The shortstop is off to another strong start in 2024 with a .321/.369/.628 slash line, four home runs, four steals, eight RBI, 18 runs scored, six doubles and three triples across 84 plate appearances. He's also striking out at a 22.6 percent clip, a bit higher than the 17.4 percent mark he had last year, but that's a fair trade-off for more contact.

  • Royals' Bobby Witt: Four hits, two homers vs. Houston

Witt went 4-for-5 with two homers, five RBI, two additional runs scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 13-3 win over the Astros. It was a day to remember for Witt -- the 23-year-old shortstop smacked a two-run homer off Hunter Brown in the first inning before tacking on three more runs with a second long ball off Bryan Abreu in the seventh. Witt has looked like an MVP candidate early in the year, going 19-for-53 (.358) with a 1.169 OPS, four homers and three stolen bases through his first 13 games. With the Royals looking like an improved team this year, Witt should be able to build upon his breakout 2023 campaign.

  • Royals' Bobby Witt: Two homers in spring

Witt has gone 4-for-15 with two home runs, a stolen base and four runs scored over five Cactus League games. As if the 11-year contract extension he signed in February wasn't enough proof, Witt is locked in as the Royals' starting shortstop. The 23-year-old offers both power and speed and should be a fixture at or near the top of the batting order this season. He hit .276 with an .814 OPS, 30 home runs, 49 stolen bases, 96 RBI and 97 runs scored in a similar role in 2023.

The second-year star is slashing .275/.317/.493 with 30 homers, 96 RBI, 96 runs and 49 steals over 633 at-bats.
