Giants' Adrian Houser: Falls short of five frames again
Houser allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies in Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader.
Houser began his outing poorly, giving up a pair of solo homers in the first inning. He bounced back by keeping the Giants out of the scoring column over the next three frames, but he was pulled in the fifth after giving up a two-out single, and that batter eventually came around to score. Houser tossed just 68 pitches, and he's now failed to complete five innings in three of his past four starts. This was nonetheless an improvement over his last appearance, when Houser coughed up eight runs over four frames, but the veteran righty has been far from impressive this season with a 7.12 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB through 30.1 innings spanning six starts.

Giants' Logan Webb: Let down by bullpen in no-decision
Webb allowed one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Philadelphia in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday.
Webb was excellent in his seven frames, giving up just one run on a first-inning Kyle Schwarber homer. He racked up 13 whiffs and finished with his fifth quality start through seven outings. However, Webb wasn't able to notch the victory, as closer Ryan Walker gave up two runs in the ninth frame to blow a save opportunity. Webb's numbers (4.30 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 2.5 K/BB) haven't been as good this season as in years past, but he's still providing San Francisco with plenty of value by going deep into games, tallying at least six frames in each of his past six starts. He's slated to make his next start at home versus San Diego.

Giants' Ryan Walker: Blows save Thursday
Walker (0-1) took the loss and blew a save opportunity in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning.
Logan Webb gave San Francisco seven innings of one-run ball, and Erik Miller tossed a scoreless eighth to hand Walker a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. However, the Giants' closer couldn't protect the advantage, yielding a pair of infield singles and a triple to allow two runs to score. The blown save was the second of the season across five save chances for Walker, who has registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through 12.2 frames spanning 13 outings. He's probably still safe as San Francisco's primary saves option for the time being, though Walker doesn't have the longest leash among MLB closers.

Giants' Patrick Bailey: Absent from Game 2 lineup
Bailey isn't in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Bailey went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts during the Giants' Game 1 loss, and he'll now move to the bench while Eric Haase starts at catcher and bats eighth.

Giants' Trevor McDonald: Serving as 27th man
The Giants recalled McDonald from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.
He will be the team's 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader versus the Phillies. The Giants have not announced a starting pitcher for the nightcap, but McDonald is a candidate to draw that assignment or eat some innings in long relief. He holds a 5.40 ERA and 12:15 K:BB in 15 innings this season with Sacramento.

Giants' Logan Webb: Phillies-Giants postponed
Webb and the Giants will not play against the Phillies on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Wednesday's game will move to Thursday as part of a split doubleheader, but it's not yet known which game Webb will take the mound for. After surrendering six earned runs Opening Day, the 29-year-old right-hander has posted four quality starts over his last five outings, and over that span he has a 3.94 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB across 32 innings.

Giants' Jared Oliva: Moves to 60-day IL
The Giants transferred Oliva (wrist) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
Oliva remains without an official timeline to rejoin the Giants after undergoing surgery just under two weeks ago to address a left hamate bone fracture, but his move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll remain on the shelf through mid-June. The 30-year-old outfielder went just 1-for-7 at the dish in seven games with the Giants prior to landing on the IL and may not be guaranteed a big-league roster spot once he's activated.

Giants' Blade Tidwell: Sent back to minors
The Giants optioned Tidwell to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
San Francisco swapped Tidwell out of its bullpen in favor of a fresh arm in right-hander Gregory Santos, who was called up from Sacramento. Tidwell appeared in eight games during his month-long stint in the majors, pitching to a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB in 12 innings. The right-hander could get stretched back out for a starting role at Sacramento.

Giants' Gregory Santos: Summoned from Triple-A
The Giants selected Santos' contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
Santos will kick off his second stint in the majors with the Giants after previously breaking into the big leagues with San Francisco in 2021. He's bounced around between the White Sox and Mariners organizations since then before inking a minor-league deal with San Francisco over the winter. The 26-year-old righty reliever earned the promotion to the big leagues after logging a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB across 11 innings with Sacramento.

Giants' Drew Gilbert: Taking seat versus lefty
Gilbert is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
With southpaw Cristopher Sanchez on the hill for Philadelphia, the left-handed-hitting Gilbert will hit the bench while the Giants add an extra right-handed bat (Jerar Encarnacion) to their outfield. Gilbert had started in each of the Giants' previous 12 games, going 9-for-37 (.243 average) with two home runs, zero stolen bases, five RBI and four runs.

Giants' Luis Arraez: Doubles in defeat
Arraez went 1-for-3 with a double in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Phillies.
Arraez lined a double to left field in the fourth inning, accounting for one of San Francisco's two hits on the night. The 29-year-old infielder has recorded a hit in eight of his last 10 games, batting .317 with four runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases and zero strikeouts in 43 plate appearances over that stretch. Overall, he's slashing .315/.345/.380 with 11 runs scored, eight RBI, four stolen bases and a 3.4 percent strikeout rate across 118 plate appearances this season.

Giants' Daniel Susac: Progressing in recovery
Susac (elbow) has begun a hitting program and is expected to resume throwing later this week, per MLB.com.
Susac was placed on the 10-day injured list April 21 (retroactive to April 20) and is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks due to right elbow neuritis. The 24-year-old catcher has impressed early this season, slashing .478/.500/.652 with five RBI and a run scored across 24 plate appearances in 11 games. Susac may return to splitting reps behind the plate with Patrick Bailey once cleared, but for now, Eric Haase will continue serving as Bailey's backup.

Giants' Tyler Mahle: Gives up five runs in loss
Mahle (1-4) took the loss against the Phillies on Tuesday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across five innings.
Mahle yielded just one run through the first five innings of Tuesday's start, but he was pulled in the sixth after giving up back-to-back RBI doubles and was tagged for four runs in the frame. It's been an inconsistent start to the season for the veteran right-hander, who has given up two runs or fewer in three of six starts while giving up five or more runs in his other three outings. Mahle will bring a 5.87 ERA and 1.63 WHIP (over 30.2 innings) into his next start, tentatively lined up for this weekend on the road against the Rays.
