Former Baylor big man Isaiah Austin was supposed to hear his name called this coming Thursday at the 2014 NBA Draft. A diagnosis of Marfan syndrome, however, ended his professional career before it could get started. He still could be in attendance, though, as NBA commissioner Adam Silver has invited Austin as a guest, via ESPN's Holly Rowe.
Having his dream dashed this close to the draft is unfathomable, and this is a nice, classy gesture from Silver. It's hard to imagine what it would be like for Austin to be in the building, but he'd certainly receive support from all of the draftees.
Austin appears to be doing his best to remain positive so far:
Woke up today blessed. I feel God's healing hands around me. Love the support you have all been giving me. Never forget, GOD IS GREAT!
