Mathurin ended Wednesday's 105-102 win over the Rockets with 16 points (3-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 9-10 FT), three rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals over 31 minutes.
It remains to be seen if the Clippers plan to eventually insert Mathurin into the starting lineup, but it appears initially that the swingman is going to handle meaningful minutes either way. He's come off the bench in six consecutive games dating back to his time in Indiana, during which Mathurin has averaged 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals in 29.4 minutes per contest.

The Pacers traded Mathurin (rest), Isaiah Jackson, two first-round picks and a second-round pick to the Clippers on Thursday in exchange for Ivica Zubac (personal) and Kobe Brown, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Injuries have limited Mathurin to just 28 regular-season games in 2025-26, but he's set to play a sizable role for the Clippers now that James Harden is out of the backcourt mix. Mathurin has been limited to 25 and 28 minutes off the bench in his first two games back from a thumb injury that caused him to miss 11 contests between Jan. 4 and Jan. 23. The fourth-year forward has looked healthy, hitting the 15-point threshold twice, and he'll likely see minimal restrictions going forward, as he started the second half of Wednesday's contest. Mathurin provided efficient scoring on the second unit, but as per usual, his offensive output was supported by little production in other categories. Expect Mathurin to eventually regain his spot in the starting five once he gets fully reconditioned following his return from the injury.

Head coach Rick Carlisle said he believes that Mathurin (thumb) will be able to return at some point during their upcoming five-game road trip, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.
According to Tony East of Forbes.com, Mathurin was able to get through a workout with Carlisle on Thursday, and he plans to go through another workout Friday afternoon. The Pacers' upcoming road trip runs from Jan. 17-26, but Indiana will likely want Mathurin to get through a full practice before he's cleared to return, so it seems unlikely he'll play Saturday in Detroit.
