After missing the entire 2014 season, former Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas formally announced his retirement from the NFL.

Taken by the Giants in the second round of the 2008 draft, Thomas spent all six of his NFL seasons in New York. Dating back to his time in college at USC, Thomas overcame three torn ACLs during his career. Two of those came with the Giants, which cost Thomas his 2011 and 2012 seasons. He was able to play during the 2013 season.

His last game was on Dec. 29, 2013 with the Giants, a 20-6 win over the Redskins.

“I thought I had two more years," Thomas said. "I thought I was about to be a top free agent and continue my career for two more years and show God’s grace. But He had a different plan for me.”

Thomas said that while it's the right decision to retire at this time, he does wonder what could have been with his career if it weren't for injuries.

“That is hopefully not going to haunt me til my days end, but that is just life,” Thomas said. “That is probably the hardest part that I had to deal with, that I was on the verge of being a very great player."
