The Broncos' Peyton Manning put together the greatest regular season by a quarterback in NFL history, throwing for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. That made his Super Bowl performance all the more surprising.

Looking helpless in the face of a fierce Seattle defense, Manning failed to lead his team to a first-quarter first down and threw two interceptions in the first half. Linebacker Malcolm Smith returned the second pick 69 yards for a touchdown, after end Cliff Avril hit Manning's arm on the throw. Manning lost a fumble in the fourth quarter.

Manning finished 34 of 49 for 280 yards, including a meaningless 14-yard touchdown to Demaryius Thomas at the end of the third quarter. Manning followed that up by finding Wes Welker for a 2-point conversion. Manning's 34 completions set a Super Bowl record.

Still, it was a dismal end to a glorious season.
