Carter signed a contract with the Panthers on Sunday, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports.
Carter, who previously spent most of this offseason with Seattle, can play both cornerback and safety. He'll look to compete for a depth role in Carolina, and will likely need to impress on special teams in order to stick around.

Alex Carter: Waived by Seahawks
Carter was waived by Seattle on Thursday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Carter signed with the Seahawks last week but was unimpressive in camp. A former third-round pick, Carter has potential to be a solid defender, but he's yet to show enough to earn any meaningful playing time. If he clears waivers, he'll be a free agent and look to catch on with another club in 2018.

Seahawks' Alex Carter: Looking to carve out reserve role
Carter, who signed a reserve/future contract last January, is one of several cornerbacks trying to garner a roster spot in a revamped secondary during training camp.
The 2015 third-round pick of the Lions has been unable to garner any meaningful playing time in the NFL through his first three pro campaigns, logging only one regular-season appearance and bouncing around between Detroit, the Patriots, Bears and Seahawks. However, he may have a chance to stick in Seattle with a strong camp and preseason, considering the Seattle secondary is firmly in a transitional phase. Former stalwart Richard Sherman is now in San Francisco, Dontae Johnson began camp on the PUP list with his surgically repaired foot, Kam Chancellor (neck) is not expected to play in 2018, and Earl Thomas is currently entrenched in a holdout that could ultimately result in a trade. Shaquill Griffin and Byron Maxwell seem to have a firm grasp of the starting cornerback jobs, but Carter -- who boasts 4.5 speed and put together an impressive college resume over three years at Stanford -- seemingly has an opportunity to receive meaningful reps this summer.

Seahawks' Alex Carter: Claimed by Seahawks
Carter was claimed off waivers by Seattle on Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Carter was waived by the Giants on Wednesday and he'll now be a depth corner for the Seahawks. He'll have a chance to earn a spot as a special teams player, but it would be a major surprise, if, barring injuries to the position, he has much of any role on the defense when the regular season rolls around.

Carter was waived by the Lions on Friday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Carter did very little in Detroit after the Lions took him in the third round of the 2015 draft. It'll be interesting to see if any teams claim him off waivers.

Lions' Alex Carter: Moving to safety
Carter has permanently moved from the cornerback position to safety, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
According to Lions coach Jim Caldwell, the team likes Carter's 6-foot, 200-pound frame positioned at safety in the secondary. Carter figures to provide Glover Quin and Tavon Wilson with depth, given he makes the final roster.

Twenty months after being drafted in the third round by the Lions, Carter has finally been promoted from the practice squad and will serve in a depth role for Monday's game against the Cowboys with starter Darius Slay (hamstring) likely sidelined.

Lions' Alex Carter: Seeing some first team reps
Carter (ankle) has practiced as a slot corner with the starting defense in offseason workouts, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Carter missed all of his rookie season with an ankle injury, but is getting back into the flow of things this offseason. He was originally placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list, but the injury lingered and he couldn't recover in time. Now that he's back to full strength, the 2015 third-round pick has been rotating between the first- and second-team defense, while spending time at both outside and slot corner back. In training camp, he'll be competing with Darrin Walls, Quandre Diggs, and Crezdon Butler for reps in the slot and behind starters Darius Slay and Nevin Lawson.
