Shumate was waived by the Jaguars on Monday, the team's official site reports.
Shumate was waived in an attempt to bring in some new undrafted free-agent signees. The Notre Dame product has struggled to make a name for himself early in his career, and it remains to be seen whether or not any other suitors will seek his service.

Jaguars' Elijah Shumate: Signs with Jaguars
Shumate signed a reserve/future contract with the Jaguars on Tuesday.
Shumate didn't play in 2016 after being waived/injured with a wrist injury by Tampa Bay in the preseason. He'll look to catch on with Jacksonville in 2017, when he'll have a chance to secure a depth position and carve out a role on special teams.

Shumate (wrist) has reached an injury settlement with the Buccaneers, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Shumate, an undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame, was waived with an injury designation last week. When healthy, he'll look to latch on with another organization.

Shumate (wrist) was waived/injured by the Bucs on Monday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Notre Dame product was given a pink slip, despite having garnered a $13,000 signing bonus, one of the highest handed out by the Bucs to an undrafted free agent this season. If he goes unclaimed, Shumate will revert back to the team's injured reserve list unless an official injury settlement is reached.

Buccaneers' Elijah Shumate: Practices for first time Thursday
Shumate (wrist/hand) was activated from the active/nonfootball injury list and practiced for the first time Thursday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The undrafted rookie from Notre Dame had been placed on the list on July 26 with what at the time was an undisclosed injury. Shumate was a two-year starter for the Fighting Irish and totaled 168 tackles (114 solo), including 10 for loss, a sack, two interceptions, 10 passes defensed and a fumble recovery over 31 games in his college career. He is currently listed behind veterans Bradley McDougald and Keith Tandy on the strong safety depth chart, and would appear to face fairly long odds to stick on the roster.

Shumate was placed on the active/non-football injury list on Tuesday with an undisclosed injury.
The severity of the injury is unknown but the undrafted rookie free agent will miss the beginning of his first training camp as a result. He can be taken off the non-football injury list at any point.
