  • Ravens' James Proche: Disappoints in 2022

Proche had eight catches on 17 targets for 62 yards and no touchdowns in 2022. It was a disappointing third season for Proche. The season began with Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay as the Ravens' top targets, but there was still room for Proche to carve out a role, and yet he was unable to do that. Bateman and Duvernay each suffered season-ending injuries at different points of the season, but it was Demarcus Robinson and Sammy Watkins who ultimately took on bigger roles. Proche remains under contract for one more season, but his inability to be involved in the offense despite all the attrition in the receiving corps this season does not portend well for his role in 2023 when Bateman and Duvernay are healthy.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Fails to capitalize on extra snaps

Proche played 32 of the Ravens' 75 snaps on offense and finished with zero catches on three targets in Sunday's 27-16 loss to the Bengals. With the Ravens waiving DeSean Jackson ahead of the Week 18 contest, Proche stepped into a top-three role at receiver for the regular-season finale alongside Demarcus Robinson and Sammy Watkins. Despite playing double-digit snaps for the first time since Week 13, Proche couldn't forge a connection with third-string quarterback Anthony Brown, who was making his first NFL start with Lamar Jackson (knee) and Tyler Huntley (shoulder) sidelined. Proche could continue to serve as the Ravens' No. 3 receiver ahead of Tylan Wallace in Sunday's rematch with the Bengals in the wild-card round of the playoffs, but none of the Baltimore pass catchers profile as especially strong fantasy options this weekend aside from standout tight end Mark Andrews. Proche finished the regular season with eight catches for 62 yards on 17 targets across 15 appearances.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Catches two passes in win

Proche secured both of his targets for nine yards in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Broncos. On top of his uninspiring performance as a receiver, Proche was also given an opportunity in the game as a passer. Unfortunately, his only attempt on a gadget play in the fourth quarter was intercepted in the end zone on a throw to Kenyan Drake. The 26-year-old wideout played just 13 of the Ravens' 72 offensive snaps while operating as the team's No. 4 receiver. Proche can not be trusted for fantasy purposes with such limited usage. In addition, Baltimore's passing offense stands to take a hit with Lamar Jackson (knee) most likely sidelined for at least one game. The Ravens host the Steelers in Week 14.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Held catchless in win

Proche failed to secure both of his targets in Sunday's 13-3 win over the Panthers. Proche operated as the No. 3 wideout Sunday, playing just 25 percent of Baltimore's offensive snaps. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old could not make the most of his opportunities on a day when the offense struggled to put points on the board. Proche will be difficult to trust going forward and is likely best left out of fantasy lineups when the Ravens visit the Jaguars in Week 12.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Logs two receptions Monday

Proche had two catches for 22 yards on two targets Monday against the Saints. Monday's box score was an anomaly for Baltimore. Per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com, Lamar Jackson was the first quarterback in over 30 years to complete passes to 10 different players while having no more than 12 completions overall. In other words, Baltimore spread the ball around with Mark Andrews (shoulder) and Rashod Bateman (foot) sidelined. With that wide distribution, Proche's two catches tied for the team lead. Bateman is done for the season, so Proche could continue to have a role in the offense. It's worth noting, however, that his snap count dipped from 46 in Week 8 to 17 in Week 9.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Catches first pass of season

Proche hauled in one of two targets for seven yards during Sunday's 19-17 win over the Bengals. With Rashod Bateman (foot) sidelined, Proche played a season-high 15 offensive snaps and saw his first two targets of the campaign. Aside from Devin Duvernay, who was utilized early and often, the Ravens' wideouts failed to make any big plays through the air for a second straight game. However, Baltimore's passing attack has a good chance to bounce back against the Giants' depleted secondary in Week 6, so Proche could be in line for another solid role if Bateman remains sidelined.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Not listed on injury report

Proche wasn't listed on the injury report Wednesday. Proche missed back-to-back games due to a groin injury, but it appears he'll be good to go for Week 4. Regardless, he'll have a tough time garnering many targets playing behind Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Demarcus Robinson.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Officially inactive

Proche (groin) is listed as inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Proche failed to suit up during the team's Week 2 contest against the Dolphins with the same injury, and he'll once again watch from the sidelines Sunday against New England. However, his ability to practice in full during Friday's session suggests he's on track to return next Sunday when Baltimore hosts the Bills. In the meantime, fellow WRs Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, Demarcus Robinson and Tylan Wallace should all take on an expanded roles.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Officially inactive

Proche (groin) is inactive Sunday against the Dolphins. Proche went into Sunday doubtful after missing practice Thursday and Friday. In his absence, Tylan Wallace will slide up to No. 4 on the team's wide receiver positional depth chart, although it's unlikely Wallace will see more than a handful of snaps on offense.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Doubtful for Week 2

Proche (groin) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Proche was unable to practice Thursday or Friday after a limited session Wednesday. Tylan Wallace could see a few more snaps if Proche sits out against Miami, though the Ravens' reliance on heavy sets offensively normally minimizes the impact of the team's depth options at wide receiver.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Not practicing Thursday

Proche (groin) did not practice Thursday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Proche was able to log a limited practice Wednesday, so this is a step in the wrong direction for the 25-year-old. If he is unable to go Sunday against the Dolphins, Tylan Wallace would likely be looking at extra opportunity as the team's No. 4 wide receiver.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Dealing with groin injury

Proche (groin) was a limited practice participant Wednesday. Proche played just five snaps during the season opener against the Jets, but it's unclear if his limited snaps were part of the game plan or due to his current groin injury. If he isn't upgraded to a full participant Thursday or Friday, the third-year wideout's status for Week 2 could be in jeopardy.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Plays five snaps in Week 1

Proche wasn't targeted across five snaps on offense during Sunday's 24-9 victory against the Jets. Based on their Week 1 usage, Proche and Tylan Wallace (five snaps) look to be locked in a battle for the No. 4 spot at receiver behind Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Demarcus Robinson. In addition to failing to draw a target, Proche was called for a holding penalty on a 12-yard run by Kenyan Drake, which doesn't help Proche's case for playing time.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Practices Tuesday

Proche (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun reports. Proche has been dealing with a soft tissue injury, but he returned to practice after missing a couple weeks. With nearly two full weeks left before Baltimore's Sept. 11 season opener against the Jets, he has plenty of time to get back up to speed.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Not practicing yet

Proche (undisclosed) still isn't practicing but caught balls from a JUGS machine Wednesday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Proche has been touted as one of the Ravens' standout performers through two weeks of training camp, but he's been out since Aug. 9 with an unspecified soft-tissue injury. While likely to miss a third straight preseason game this weekend, Proche seems to at least be eyeing a return to practice in the near future. The missed time could hurt his bid for a Week 1 starting job, though the Ravens still don't have great alternatives beyond Rashod Bateman. Behind Bateman, Devin Duvernay and Proche are the best bets for snaps and targets early in the season.

  • Ravens' James Proche: To miss 1-to-2 weeks

Coach John Harbaugh said Proche wasn't available for Thursday's preseason game against the Titans due to a soft-tissue injury that will sideline the wide receiver 1-to-2 weeks, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. "It's not going to be too long," Harbaugh added. If the given timetable surpasses the two-week mark, Proche could be in danger of missing the Ravens' final two exhibitions on Sunday, Aug. 21 in Arizona and Saturday, Aug. 27 against the Commanders. In a Ravens receiving corps with few proven commodities outside of tight end Mark Andrews, Proche seems poised to miss out on opportunities to make his mark during a key time of the NFL calendar. Tylan Wallace picked up a knee injury Thursday, while the team held out its presumed top two wideouts Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay, who both recently missed time with health concerns. If Proche gets healthy sooner than later, he again will be able to push for depth chart slotting.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Misses practice

Proche didn't practice Tuesday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. The absence puts his status in doubt for Thursday's preseason game against Tennessee, though it's possible Proche had already earned the right to sit that one out along with a number of Baltimore starters. He and Devin Duvernay have been getting most of the first-team reps alongside Rashod Bateman in training camp, with reports from multiple Baltimore beat writers pinpointing Proche as one of the stars of camp. Duvernay is approximately the same size, significantly faster and was drafted three rounds earlier than Proche in 2020, but the latter seems to be making a much stronger impression at camp -- in part because Duvernay missed about a week with a thigh bruise. WR usage will be one of the key things to watch with Baltimore this preseason once the team gives its starters some run, likely in the second and/or third games.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Excels in camp

Proche has been one of the standouts from the first two weeks of Ravens training camp, building chemistry with quarterback Lamar Jackson, Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com reports. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic agrees that Proche has been one of the team's most consistent players, catching passes in "pretty much every area of the field" while running precise routes. It's perhaps a bit of a surprise to hear the 2020 sixth-round pick is having success downfield, considering he ran a 4.63 40-yard dash coming out of SMU, where he was mostly a high-volume possession receiver. Regardless of his exact role, Proche has a nice opportunity entering Year 3 after the Ravens traded away Marquise Brown without acquiring a potential replacement. Receiver jobs are open for the taking behind 2021 first-round pick Rashod Bateman, with Proche and Devin Duvernay considered the favorites for starting jobs. Duvernay missed a bunch of practice time with a thigh bruise recently, giving Proche more chances, but both now seem to be healthy as the Ravens prepare to begin the preseason.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Competing for snaps in offseason

Proche faces added significance to his offseason work this year after the trade of Marquise Brown, Jeff Zrebiec of the Athletic reports. The Ravens have yet to make a splash in the wideout market after trading Brown to the Cardinals in exchange for the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, suggesting the team has confidence in the group of young pass catchers already on the roster. Along with Devin Duvernay and Tylan Wallace, Proche appears to have an opportunity to solidify a decent role ahead of the 2022 campaign with his performances during OTAs and other offseason workouts. However, Baltimore also brought in six undrafted rookie free agents that'll also be competing for snaps behind Rashod Bateman, whose role as the de facto No. 1 appears set in stone.

  • Ravens' James Proche: Shows improvement in Year 2

Proche finished the season with 16 catches for 202 yards on 20 targets. The second-year wideout moved into a larger role within the offense after playing a mere 25 offensive snaps as a rookie and recording one reception. Proche showed the skills that made him effective in college, running sharp routes and demonstrating good hands by catching 80 percent of his targets and dropping zero passes. Baltimore will likely go into next season with Marquise Brown, Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay as its top three receivers and Proche will have a chance to slot in as the No.4. However, 2021 draft pick Tylan Wallace could improve and Baltimore could opt to mine for more receiving depth through free agency and the draft.
