  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Another poor perfromance

Herbert rushed for times for nine yards in the Bears' 21-16 loss to the Colts on Sunday. After largely serving as the Bears' No. 2 running back in Weeks 1 and 2, Herbert was the third-stringer in this contest. On the season, Herbert has eight carries for 17 yards and a touchdown. With minimal usage and low production, Herbert's fantasy value is as low as it's been at any point during his four years in Chicago.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Finds end zone

Herbert rushed two times for three yards and a touchdown along with two catches for four yards in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Texans on Sunday. Herbert played just nine percent of the snaps, and other than the short touchdown he scored, he was ineffective on limited work. In terms of playing time, Herbert played 20 percent fewer snaps than Travis Homer, as Homer has emerged as the No. 2 running back over the first two games. Unless Herbert sees more playing time, he'll be difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Minimal work in season opener

Herbert rushed twice for four yards in the Bears' 24-17 win over the Titans on Sunday. With Roschon Johnson listed as a healthy scratch, Herbert served in a backfield committee. Herbert joined Travis Homer and wide receiver Velus Jones as teammates who also had two carries each behind starter D'Andre Swift. Based on Week 1 usage, it appears that Herbert may not be in line for significant work unless other running backs on the team miss time.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Week 1 Waiver Priority List

Herbert will open the season as the No. 2 running back in Chicago behind D'Andre Swift, and we'll see if Herbert plays in tandem with Swift early in the season. Roschon Johnson could also be a factor, but Herbert is the likely handcuff for the Bears should something happen to Swift.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Takes five carries for 31 yards

Herbert started Saturday's preseason win over the Bengals and took five carries for 31 yards in the first half. D'Andre Swift was held out entirely after playing just two snaps in the preseason opener. It's a signal that the Bears consider Swift important and want to protect him, but Herbert at least has taken advantage of his extended playing time with the first-string offense this preseason, taking 17 carries for 97 yards in three appearances (including the Hall of Fame Game). He hasn't seen any targets, in part because Travis Homer has replaced him for some of the clear passing downs (Roschon Johnson didn't play the past two weeks, perhaps because of a minor injury). The way things have played out so far makes it a bit tricky to get a read on Chicago's backfield, apart from Swift being the lead guy. There have been rumors about the Bears showcasing Herbert for a potential trade, but it might just be that they like him to mix in behind Swift on early downs.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Gets nine carries Saturday

Herbert rushed nine times for 31 yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 33-6 preseason win over the Bills. D'Andre Swift got two of the first three touches among Chicago's running backs and took a screen pass 42 yards before ceding the next eight touches to Herbert while the Bears' starters were in the game. Roschon Johnson didn't play against Buffalo after starting the Hall of Fame Game last week, so it remains unclear where Herbert stands relative to Johnson in a backfield that will likely be led by Swift but have room left over for at least one more meaningful contributor. Herbert will look to bolster his case for regular-season playing time in next Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Explosive in HOF Game cameo

Herbert rushed four times for 35 yards in the Bears' 21-17 preseason win over the Texans on Thursday. Herbert was the second Bears running back to log a carry behind Roschon Johnson, who handled all the ground work on Chicago's first drive. Herbert ripped off a 19-yard gain on his third carry and immediately followed it up with a nine-yard scamper on the next play, showcasing some of the talent that helped him to three 100-yard performances a season ago. The team's deep backfield is now helmed by D'Andre Swift, who didn't play Thursday, with Herbert and Johnson currently battling for the No. 2 RB role.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Could be moved

With D'Andre Swift signed this offseason and Roschon Johnson entering his second season, Herbert is viewed as potential trade bait, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports. Herbert is entering the final year of his rookie deal that is set to pay him a non-guaranteed $1.055 million salary, and the coaching staff is high on Johnson headed into his second season after he was taken in the fourth round of the NFL Draft last year. Swift inked a three-year, $24 million deal in March. After leading the NFL averaging 5.7 yards per carry in 2022, Herbert battled ankle and back issues last year, missing five games on injured reserve in the middle of the season. Travis Homer is also on the roster as a special teams ace. Herbert doesn't play special teams.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Facing competition from Swift

Herbert is part of a backfield that's set to add D'Andre Swift on a three-year, $24 million contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Herbert has outperformed his draft slot since the Bears took him in the sixth round in 2021, averaging 4.9 yards on 364 carries. He's typically worked in timeshares and has just 43 receptions in 42 games, and it's not exactly surprising to see the cap-flush Bears brining in a more versatile running back. This isn't the worst outcome for Herbert's value given that the Bears were previously rumored to have interest in Saquon Barkley -- who is joining the Eagles -- but it does leave Herbert with a lot of snap/touch competition for the final year of his rookie contract, competing against Swift and 2023 fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Underwhelming in season finale

Herbert rushed 12 times for 28 yards and caught two passes for 13 yards in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday. Herbert came into Week 18 having posted at least 121 scrimmage yards in each of his last two games. Facing a middling Packers defense, Herbert was unable to help Chicago sustain consistent offense. In 12 games played this season, Herbert rushed for 583 yards and two touchdowns and added 18 receptions for 121 yards and another score. With two years left on his rookie contract, the Bears will need to decide if Herbert can be their lead back or if he's best used as part of a committee.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Likely to play Sunday

Herbert (back/personal) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Packers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Herbert remains listed as questionable for the contest, but he looks like he'll be formally cleared to play when the Bears release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. He was added to the Bears' Week 18 injury report Thursday after practicing as a limited participant and then missed Friday's practice entirely, but the expectation is that Herbert will be ready to handle the lead role out of the backfield for Chicago. Herbert has delivered his best two rushing performances of the season over the past two weeks in wins over Arizona and Atlanta, carrying 38 times for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Iffy for season finale

Herbert is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers due to a back injury as well as a personal matter. Herbert was added to the Bears' injury report Thursday after he was a limited participant in practice that day on account of the back issue, but the personal matter might have been the cause of his absence from Friday's practice. Whatever the case, Herbert is now uncertain to be available for the Bears' season finale, with a final word on his status set to arrive when Chicago posts its inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. Roschon Johnson and D'Onta Foreman -- who was a healthy inactive for the Week 17 win over Atlanta -- would likely see expanded profiles out of the backfield if the Bears are without the services of Herbert, a late-season fantasy standout with 38 carries for 236 yards and two touchdowns over the last two weeks.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Dealing with back issue

Herbert was limited at Thursday's practice due to a back injury. Herbert is making a midweek appearance on the Bears' Week 18 injury report after having no limitations whatsoever to kick off the week Wednesday. It's unclear if his availability for Sunday's game at Green Bay is in danger, but how he fares at Friday's session could be telling for his status. Herbert is coming off back-to-back 100-yard, one-touchdown efforts on the ground, so Chicago could be missing a big part of its offense if he's inhibited or even sidelined this weekend. Roschon Johnson and D'Onta Foreman would be next up in the team's backfield.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: RBs to Start

It's worked out well for the Bears and Fantasy managers that Herbert has taken over as the No. 1 running back over the past two games, and he should remain in that role in Week 18 at Green Bay. In his past two outings against Arizona and Atlanta, Herbert has scored at least 19.1 PPR points in each game with 38 carries for 236 yards and two touchdowns and three catches for 14 yards on five targets over that span. He now has 12 games in his career with at least 13 total touches, and he's scored at least 15.7 PPR points in eight of them. He scored 11.4 PPR points against Green Bay in Week 1, and the Packers have allowed a running back to score at least 12.1 PPR points in five of their past six games, including three running backs with at least 21.3 PPR points during that time.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Another big game

Herbert rushed 18 times for 124 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches on three targets for five yards in the Bears' 37-17 win over the Falcons on Sunday. Herbert took advantage of being the lead back for the Bears with D'Onta Foreman (coach's decision) inactive for the second straight week. In each of those games, Herbert recorded at least 121 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. If Chicago chooses to leave Herbert in the lead role in Week 18 against the Packers, he could be in line for another strong performance to end the season.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Week 17 Adds (RB Preview)

Herbert put up a season-high 112 yards rushing in Week 16 against the Cardinals. The Falcons are a more difficult matchup, but we'll also be watching to see if D'Onta Foreman returns. if Foreman is out, view Herbert as a low-end No. 2 running back or a very good flex.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Racks up 21 touches in Week 16

Herbert took 20 carries for 112 yards and one touchdown and hauled in one of two targets for nine yards during Sunday's 27-16 win over the Cardinals. With D'Onta Foreman out due to a personal matter, Herbert and Roschon Johnson were the likely options to handle most of the backfield reps for the Bears in Week 16. The scale ended up tilting Herbert's way, as he dominated Johnson in touches (21-12) and yards from scrimmage (121-53). Prior to Sunday's outburst, Herbert hadn't fared well in four appearances since missing five due to a high-ankle sprain, averaging 2.4 yards on his 31 rushes while tallying five catches (on six targets) for 24 yards. It's unclear what kind of role he can expect the next time Foreman is available, but Herbert may be worthy of rostering again in the event the former misses more time.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Poor showing in Cleveland

Herbert carried the ball six times for eight yards and caught his only target for four yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Browns. The Bears' backfield committee didn't provide much fantasy value in this one, as rookie Roschon Johnson was the only one of the three RBs to deliver any kind of useful numbers with 60 scrimmage yards on nine touches, while D'Onta Foreman's longest carry went for just two yards and he wound up with minus-six rushing yards on his six totes. Herbert should remain in the mix, but with Chicago looking ahead to 2024, Johnson could emerge as the top option of the trio for the final weeks of the current campaign.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Limited to three carries

Herbert rushed the ball three times for eight yards in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Lions. Herbert saw his role slip significantly with the return of D'Onta Foreman (ankle), as he worked in a clear backup role. He's been held to 35 or fewer rushing yards in three consecutive games since returning from injured reserve, and that streak looks unlikely to change in Week 15 against Cleveland.

  • Bears' Khalil Herbert: Eight touches in Week 12 win

Herbert rushed six times for 24 yards and brought in both targets for 14 yards in the Bears' 12-10 win over the Vikings on Monday. Herbert entered the game atop the running back depth chart with D'Onta Foreman (ankle) sidelined, but rookie backfield mate Roschon Johnson outpaced Herbert by four carries and three receptions. The third-year pro had logged double-digit rush attempts in three straight contests before Monday's downturn, but with Foreman potentially back in action Week 14 against the Lions following the Week 13 bye, Herbert heads into the Bears' pause in play with some newfound uncertainty surrounding his role.
