  • Texans' Kamari Lassiter: Grabs first interception of career

Lassiter registered four tackles (three solo) and one interception in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Bears. The rookie second-round pick snagged the first interception of his career early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game, picking off a pass from Caleb Williams intended for tight end Cole Kmet. Lassiter beat out veterans D'Angelo Ross and Kris Boyd for the starting corner job opposite Derek Stingley during training camp. • Texans' Kamari Lassiter: Limited by injury

Lassiter (undisclosed) is recovering from a soft-tissue injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Lassiter is expected to operate as a primary option in Houston's secondary this season, so he'll look to return to the field as soon as possible. The Texans are set to begin their preseason Friday on the road in Pittsburgh, and the cornerback appears to be unlikely to be available. On the bright side, Lassiter's injury isn't considered to be a long-term concern, so he'll likely be back in action sooner rather than later.

Lassiter is listed as the Texans' No. 2 cornerback on the team's unofficial depth chart, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. • Texans' Kamari Lassiter: Heads to Lone Star State

The Texans selected Lassiter in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 42nd overall. Lassiter (6-feet, 186 pounds) was a productive player on a strong Georgia defense, but it's difficult to recall the last time a cornerback was drafted this high with athletic testing as poor as Lassiter's. More specifically, Lassiter's 4.65-second 40-yard time at his pro day is bad even by safety standards, let alone a cornerback who's thin and with short arms (30 and 7/8-inches). Lassiter's short-area movement is very good, as evidenced by his elite 6.62-second three-cone drill, but he might need the Houston pass rush to hurry the quarterback before wideouts get the chance to take Lassiter downfield. Be it in the slot or on the boundary, the Texans clearly have immediate plans for Lassiter after drafting him this high.
