Player Outlook
We're ranking Moody as a No. 2 kicker, but if he has a good camp and start to the season, he could absolutely move into the top 12. He made all 148 extra points he attempted at Michigan and an acceptable 86.7% of his field goals his last two years in college. San Francisco offers a good offense but also a below average kicking environment. If Week 1 goes well, there is a good chance we are suggesting Moody as a streaming option as early as Week 2 at Los Angeles, but we will be less interested in starting him outdoors.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Limited to PAT work Sunday

Moody did not attempt a field goal while going 6-for-6 on point-after tries in Sunday's 42-19 win over the Eagles. Moody got to put his accurate feet up for most of this game and watch his teammates rally for six consecutive touchdown drives en route to a lopsided victory. San Francisco's success at finishing drives led to no field-goal attempts for the rookie, the third time that has happened this season. Moody was able to extend his streak of games without a missed kick to five ahead of next Sunday's tilt against Seattle.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Converts all attempts Thursday

Moody made his only field-goal attempt from 32 yards out and went 4-for-4 on point-after tries in Thursday's 31-13 win over Seattle. Moody barely broke a sweat on his five kicks Thursday, as his only field-goal attempt wound up being a shorter kick than his four successful PATs. The end result was another clean outing for the rookie, who has converted 85 percent of his field goals (17-for-20) and all 37 of his extra-point attempts through 11 games this season. Moody will be one of the new faces introduced to a developing rivalry between NFC powerhouses when the 49ers visit the Eagles on Dec. 3.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Accounts for nine points

Moody went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and 3-for-3 on point-after tries in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Buccaneers. Moody kept things rolling with his second perfect kicking performance with multiple field goals made in as many weeks. The rookie's season has mirrored that of his new club, as the Michigan product got off to a blazing start before hitting the skids mid-season. Just like the 49ers, Moody used the bye week as a reset and has since railed off two strong fantasy kicking lines. He will be shooting for a third when San Francisco heads north to face Seattle on Thursday Night Football in Week 12.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Scores 10 points in blowout win

Moody went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and 4-for-4 on point-after tries in Sunday's 34-3 win over the Jaguars. San Francisco received a much-needed boost from Deebo Samuel's (shoulder) return from injury over the Week 9 bye. The flurry of scoring resulted in the rookie leg's first game with double-digit points since Week 3. With the 49ers returning to form on offense Sunday, Moody can also return to being a viable fantasy option against the Buccaneers in Week 11.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: First miss leads to first team loss

Moody went 1-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 2-for-2 on extra-point attempts in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Browns. Moody's perfect stretch to begin his pro career finally came to an end following after missing two crucial kicks in Week 6's loss to Cleveland. The rookie placekicker missed the first and last of his three attempts Sunday. The first miss came early in the contest from 54 yards out, but it was his final miss on a 41-yard attempt that stands out after his team lost by just two points. Moody will have to shake off his first rough outing in the pros and attempt to bounce back when the 49ers face the Vikings on Monday Night Football in Week 7.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Limited to PATs on Sunday

Moody went 6-for-6 on point-after tries without attempting a field goal in Sunday's 42-10 win over the Cowboys. Moody finished without a field-goal attempt for the second consecutive week after converting nine attempts over the 49ers' first three games. The rookie kicker stayed perfect by converting PATs on each of San Francisco's six touchdown drives Sunday. Moody should be considered a startable fantasy option against Cleveland this Sunday after successfully converting all 29 of his kicking opportunities through five weeks.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Hits five PATs

Moody did not attempt a field goal and converted all five of his point-after tries in Sunday's 35-16 win over the Cardinals. The 49ers' offense did not falter in the red zone Sunday, leaving little work for Moody in a comfortable win. The third-round rookie was fresh off of three straight 12-point performances, so this feels like a down fantasy game through no fault of his own. Moody will attempt to maintain his perfect kicking percentage when the 49ers face the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in Week 5.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Stays perfect in win

Moody went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 3-for-3 on point-after tries in Thursday's 30-12 win over the Giants. Moody has been perfect to begin his pro career by converting all 18 kicking opportunities presented to him through three games. Thursday's FG attempts were of the chip-shot variety, coming from 21, 28 and 36 yards, but the rookie was able to show off his driver on a 57-yard conversion in Week 2. Moody has quickly become one of the top kicking options in fantasy behind San Francisco's high-octane offense. The Michigan product will look to continue his early success in a plus matchup against the Cardinals on Oct. 1.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Hits from 57 yards

Moody was a perfect 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts in Sunday's 30-23 win over the Rams. The 49ers have kept Moody busy with 12 combined kicking opportunities through the first two games of the season. The third-round rookie responded by converting every attempt without drama, including a 57-yard drive that split the uprights Sunday. Moody will look to keep the strong start to his career rolling against the Giants on Thursday.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Cleared to play

Moody (quadricep) was removed from the 49ers' injury report and will play Sunday against the Steelers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Moody pulled his quad during the preseason but has been cleared to kick for Week 1. Likely kicking at less than 100 percent and on the road in a game with a projected low scoring total, Moody isn't an exciting fantasy option Sunday.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Remains limited Thursday

Moody (quadriceps) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. After sitting out the 49ers' preseason finale due to a strained right quadriceps, Moody was deemed week-to-week by the team, but by Monday he was able to kick on a side field, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Moody now has logged back-to-back capped practices and seems on course to be available Sunday in Pittsburgh. Friday's injury report ultimately will unveil whether or not he heads into the weekend with a designation. If Moody isn't able to suit up, San Francisco has Matthew Wright at the ready on the practice squad.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Officially limited Wednesday

Moody (quadricep) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Moody didn't suit up for the 49ers' exhibition finale due to a right quad strain, an injury that prompted San Francisco to label him week-to-week. Fellow kicker Zane Gonzalez (calf) also didn't play in that game, and after a stint on injured reserve, the team released him Tuesday with an injury settlement. As a result, Moody's only competition for kicker duties in the Bay Area is practice-squad member Matthew Wright. While Wright actually has NFL experience under his belt, head coach Kyle Shanahan told David Lombardi of The Athletic that the team expects Moody, a rookie third-round pick out of Michigan, to be available for Sunday's Week 1 road matchup with the Steelers.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: On track for opener

Moody (quadriceps) was on a side field Monday, kicking alongside recent practice-squad signing Matthew Wright, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Moody attempted short and mid-range kicks during the open portion of practice and reportedly had no trouble putting the ball high up on the net. He seems to be on track for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, but the 49ers brought in Wright just in case Moody suffers a setback. As much as his team context hints at possible fantasy value this year, Moody will start the season with a tough matchup even if his quad proves to be a non-issue, playing at one of the harshest stadiums for kickers and against one of the few teams that can nearly match his when it comes to veteran talent on defense.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Considered week-to-week

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said Saturday that Moody is considered week-to-week with a right quad strain, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Moody sat out Friday's 23-12 preseason loss to the Chargers after he popped up with this injury. While he was initially considered day-to-day, the outlook for the 23-year-old appears to have taken a hit following the completion of San Francisco's preseason schedule. The 49ers selected Moody with the 99th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he struggled during his preseason debut against Las Vegas, going 0-for-2 on field-goal attempts while hitting his lone PAT. Nevertheless, the rookie should still slot in as the team's starting kicker when healthy.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Strains quad

Moody strained his right quadriceps and won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Chargers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. The rookie is day-to-day, but an injury to his kicking leg could be a problem even if it isn't too serious. Moody had a rough summer after being selected in the third round in April, missing two field-goal attempts and a PAT in his two preseason games. Zane Gonzalez will handle all the kicks Friday night.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Gets off on wrong foot

Moody missed both of his field-goal attempts (1-for-1 on PATs) in his preseason debut against the Raiders on Sunday. Moody shanked his first attempt left from 40 yards out following one of the few lengthy drives by the offense Sunday. He squared up his next kick, but it was a 58-yard desperation attempt. This is a concerning start for a kicker the 49ers drafted in the third round in order to avoid re-signing one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, Robbie Gould. That is no fault of Moody, who will look to right the ship against Denver on Saturday.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Solid showing so far

Moody has been having a strong training camp, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Moody has missed only one kick in practice out of his 20 attempts thus far, including multiple tries beyond 50 yards and a 60-yard attempt that easily cleared the crossbar. He's currently competing with Zane Gonzalez in camp, though considering Moody was taken in the third round of the 2023 Draft and his solid performance thus far, he likely has the inside track for the job.
