  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Looking at reduced role

Allgeier will be joined by No. 8 overall draft pick Bijan Robinson in the Atlanta backfield, The Athletic's Josh Kendall reports. A fifth-rounder last spring, Allgeier set the team rookie rushing record with 1,035 yards but will have a hard time matching that number while competing for carries with one of the best RB prospects of the past decade. Robinson's combine weight (215) was just five pounds shy of Allgeier's listed weight, and the rookie ran a much faster 40-yard dash (4.46 compared to 4.60) than his new backfield mate. The two players had similar production their final two collegiate seasons, but Robinson did it at a younger age against tougher competition and with far more receiving production to boot. Allgeier may thus be reduced to a backup role as soon as Week 1, and at best he'll be splitting work in a backfield where 32-year-old Cordarrelle Patterson is also under contract and could get some touches. Even in Arthur Smith's run-heavy offense, Allgeier probably won't get enough work to be a fantasy starter if Robinson stays healthy.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Tops 100 rushing yards in win

Allgeier rushed 24 times for 135 yards during Sunday's 30-17 win over Tampa Bay. Allgeier dominated the backfield work in Week 18, as Cordarrelle Patterson saw just five rushing attempts and three targets. The rookie took advantage and notched his second game of the season with at least 100 rushing yards. In the process, Allgeier eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in his first NFL campaign and will finish with 1,035 rushing yards and three touchdowns to go along with 16 receptions on 17 targets for 139 yards and an additional receiving touchdown. Atlanta may add more running back depth in the offseason, but as of now, Allgeier appears to have proven himself worthy of a solid role next year.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: RBs to Start

Allgeier was great as the Start of the Week in Week 17, scoring 16 PPR points against Arizona with 20 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 12 yards on one target. He's now scored at least 15 PPR points in three games in a row, and he should finish the season strong against the Buccaneers, who aren't expected to play their starters for much of the game, if at all. Allgeier needs 100 yards for a 1,000-yard season, so hopefully he gets enough carries to make that happen, and I like him once again as a standout No. 2 Fantasy running back in all leagues.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Rushing score against Arizona

Allgeier rushed the ball 20 times for 83 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-19 win over Arizona. He added one reception for 12 yards. Allgeier continued his late-season breakout, and he saw a career-high 20 carries in Atlanta's Week 17 win. Though he failed to crack 100 yards, he still managed long gains of 17 and 14 yards while also plunging into the end zone from five yards away early in the second quarter. Since emerging out of a committee to serve as Atlanta's top back in Week 15, Allgeier has combined to rack up 348 total yards and two touchdowns across three games.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Start Him (Lineup Decisions)

The matchup is irresistible, and even though it's a certainty Cordarrelle Patterson will take work away, the Falcons have seemingly committed to Allgeier over the past few weeks and don't have a good reason to go away from him. He's expected to see the most work in a great matchup, which puts him in line to be a low-end No. 2 Fantasy RB. Patterson is at best a non-PPR touchdown-dependent flex.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Strong showing against Ravens

Allgeier carried the ball 18 times for 74 yards and caught four of five targets for 43 yards in Saturday's 17-9 loss to Baltimore. The rookie has now topped 100 scrimmage yards in back-to-back games, and with Atlanta now eliminated from playoff contention, it's likely Allgeier will remain the top option in the Falcons backfield for their final two games ahead of 31-year-old Cordarrelle Patterson, who may not factor into the team's future plans. Heading into a Week 17 clash with the Cardinals, Allgeier has 817 rushing yards through 14 contests, giving him a shot at a 1,000-yard campaign with two games remaining.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Week 16 Adds (RB Preview)

If not for an awful matchup against the Ravens, Allgeier would be my favorite running back to add this week. He's played right around half the snaps in four of his past five games and has been very efficient with the touches he's received, averaging five yards per carry and catching 100% of the passes thrown his way. But the Ravens run defense is a juggernaut, so proceed with caution.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

Allgeier just had a career game in Week 15 at New Orleans with 17 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown, along with one catch for minus-3 yards on one target. He's not someone I want to start in Week 16 at Baltimore, but I would like to potentially use him in Week 17 against Arizona. He's going to continue sharing touches with Cordarrelle Patterson, but the Falcons might start giving Allgeier more work to close the season to see if he's their potential starter in 2023. For this year, if he does anything of significance against the Ravens in Week 16 then he could be a flex option in Week 17 against the Cardinals.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Week 16 Early Waiver Targets (Add/Drop)

Allgeier didn't need an injury to become the Falcons lead back Sunday; he seemingly took the opportunity and ran with it. Cordarrelle Patterson was still plenty involved, but with Caleb Huntley leaving with an ankle injury, Allgeier led the backfield in carries and yards, while both he and Patterson found the end zone. The Falcons passing game was nonexistent with rookie Desmond Ridder making his first start, so Allgeier had to carry a very heavy load under difficult conditions, and he acquitted himself very well. There's no guarantee that he'll be the team's lead back in Week 16, but it wouldn't be surprising either. It's a tough matchup against Baltimore, but Allgeier will probably be in the RB3 range in my rankings for that one.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Career-best game in loss

Allgeier rushed 17 times for 139 yards and a touchdown and brought in his only target for minus-3 yards in the Falcons' 21-18 loss to the Saints on Sunday. The rookie running back put together a career-best performance in the close loss, one that was highlighted by a game-long 43-yard scamper. Allgeier also recorded only his second career rushing touchdown on a five-yard run to cap off the first drive of the second half. Allgeier notably outpaced backfield mate Cordarrelle Patterson by three carries, and it remains to be seen if Sunday's performance continues to afford him the bigger share of the workload in a Week 16 road matchup against the Ravens.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Solid efficiency in win

Allgeier rushed eight times for 55 yards and secured his only target for nine yards during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Bears. Allgeier saw only nine touches but was efficient in his limited work. Cordarrelle Patterson had only two more rushing attempts than the rookie, but Marcus Mariota dominated the ground work, rushing 13 times for 25 yards and a score. As expected, Allgeier's role has diminished with Patterson's return from IR, but the former remains solidly involved in the offense and should continue to be on fantasy radars.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Sneaky Sleeper (Lineup Decisions)

Allgeier isn't expected to lead the Falcons in rushing, but he is coming off a game where he split snaps pretty evenly with Cordarrelle Patterson and was stunningly efficient. I always like to use running backs on Thursday nights, especially against tired defenses that got stomped four days prior. Allgeier is a good flex I'd use in non-PPR over Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Robinson, Taysom Hill and Brian Robinson.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Tallies first career touchdown

Allgeier carried the ball 16 times for 50 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-17 loss to the Bengals. After splitting work with Caleb Huntley in Week 6, Allgeier took hold of the lead back role against the Bengals by accounting for 16 of the team's 23 carries by running backs. He failed to tally a gain of at least 10 yards, though he did manage a pair of nine and eight-yard rushes, respectively. However, the highlight of his day came on a one-yard plunge into the end zone just before halftime -- the first touchdown of his career. Allgeier has at least 10 carries in five of his six games this season, tallying 50 or more rushing yards on three occasions.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Posts 15 carries in win

Allgeier recorded 15 carries for 51 yards during Sunday's 28-14 victory over the 49ers. Allgeier saw one fewer rushing attempt and totaled eight fewer yards than Caleb Huntley, though neither running back saw any work work in the passing game. With Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) sidelined, the rookie Allgeier has rushed 23 times for 129 yards while securing his only target for 20 yards over the past two weeks. Both running backs figure to see increased work as long as Patterson remains on injured reserve, but their overall potential will continue to be limited as long as they continue to split carries.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Stifled by Tampa Bay

Allgeier rushed 13 times for 45 yards during Sunday's 21-15 loss to Tampa Bay. Allgeier led the backfield in rushing attempts during the first game without Cordarrelle Patterson, who's set to miss at least four contests while on IR with a knee injury. However, the rookie fifth-round pick struggled to find any running room against Tampa Bay's strong run defense. Caleb Huntley was a little more efficient on the ground, rushing eight times for 34 yards, but Avery Williams syphoned the only rushing touchdown. Allgeier figures to be the No. 1 option with Patterson sidelined, but Atlanta certainly won't shy away from getting other players involved, though the Falcons' running backs face another stiff test against the 49ers in Week 6.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: RBs to Sit

Allgeier is worth adding in all leagues with Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) out, but you shouldn't plan on using Allgeier as a starting Fantasy option at Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers struggled with Clyde Edwards-Helaire last week, but he's the lone running back to top eight PPR points against this defense, including matchups with Ezekiel Elliott, Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. Allgeier just had 10 carries for 84 yards and one catch for 20 yards on one target in Week 4 against Cleveland in the game Patterson was hurt, but it's doubtful he'll dominate touches with Caleb Huntley also a factor. I'm fine with Allgeier as a flex play if you're stuck, but for now just stash him on the bench in Week 5 given the opponent.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Week 5 Adds (RB Preview)

It will be a timeshare, but Allgeier appears most likely to lead the Falcons running backs for as long as Cordarrelle Patterson is out. He had great success in Week 4, producing 104 yards on just 11 touches and played more on third downs than Caleb Huntley. Both Huntley and Damien Williams are deep stash options as well.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Week 5 Waiver Priority List

The Falcons are expected to be without Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) for at least four games, which opens the door for Allgeier, Caleb Huntley (0 percent rostered) and eventually Damien Williams (11 percent) to be Fantasy relevant. You should add Allgeier first with the hope that he takes over this backfield -- maybe for the rest of the year -- and the rookie from BYU looked good in Week 4 against Cleveland with 10 carries for 84 yards and one catch for 20 yards on one target. The Falcons are a run-heavy team, and four times this season an Atlanta running back has scored at least 11 PPR points. Huntley had one of those outings in Week 4 also with 10 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown, and he is worth a flier in deeper leagues. The wild card in all of this is Williams, who could return off IR in Week 6. He was expected to have a prominent role before getting hurt in Week 1, and he might be the best Falcons running back moving forward. I would add Allgeier for 15 percent of your remaining FAB, Huntley and Williams for up to 5 percent, and Williams should be added in all formats with an IR spot just to see what happens when he's healthy.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Increased role on horizon

Allgeier is set for an expanded role after the Falcons placed Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) on injured reserve Monday, Scott Bair of the team's official site reports. The injuries keep coming for the Falcons' running back room, which already has Damien Williams (ribs) on IR, so the rookie fifth-round pick may get an extended look as a lead back early in his career. With Patterson limited in the second half, Atlanta turned to Allgeier (11 touches for 104 yards) and Caleb Huntley (10 rushes for 56 yards and a score), as the two dominated on the ground en route to a comeback victory. After being elevated from the practice squad ahead of Week 4, Huntley officially was signed to the active roster Monday to take Patterson's spot, but Allgeier figures to get the first crack as the team's lead back in the absence of Patterson and Williams. Avery Williams, who was converted to running back this offseason, likely will get a few additional looks as well, but he's been limited to a change-of-pace role to start the season. Through three appearances, Allgeier has totaled 28 touches for 164 yards from scrimmage (5.9 yards per touch), but he'll face a stiff test against Tampa Bay in Week 5.

  • Falcons' Tyler Allgeier: Eclipses 100 total yards in win

Allgeier rushed 10 times for 84 yards and caught his lone target for 20 yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns. The Falcons went with a committee approach to their backfield Sunday, splitting carries between Allgeier (10), Caleb Huntley (10) and starter Cordarrelle Patterson (nine). The rookie did the most with his touches, but the other two backs scored a touchdown each. Patterson (knee) was banged up during practice this week, which could have resulted in the sudden shift in touch distribution. Allgeier will look to build upon the best game of his young career in a tough matchup against the Buccaneers next Sunday.
