  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Misses Thursday's walkthrough

Johnson (concussion) was a non-participant at Thursday's walkthrough. Johnson has been a listed DNP since sustaining a concussion during a Thanksgiving day loss at Detroit, sitting out Week 14 at San Francisco so far. With no activity to speak of yet, he clearly hasn't made much progress through the protocol for head inuries. Meanwhile, fellow RB D'Andre Swift (groin) also was a non-participant Thursday, and Travis Homer (head) was listed as full. Consequently, the state of the Bears backfield remains in flux ahead of Monday's game in Minnesota.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Ruled out for Week 14

Johnson (concussion) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers. Johnson remains in the concussion protocol and hasn't yet practiced in any capacity. His next chance to suit up will come Week 15 against the Vikings, but Johnson will need to gain full clearance from the concussion protocol in order to do so. With Johnson sidelined and D'Andre Swift (quadriceps) listed as questionable for Sunday's road matchup, Travis Homer and practice-squad member Darrynton Evans could be in line to handle key backfield roles for Chicago.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Still sidelined for practice

Johnson (concussion) didn't practice Thursday. Both Johnson and D'Andre Swift (quadricep) were spectators for the second practice in a row, leaving the statuses of both of the team's top two running backs in question as Sunday's game at San Francisco approaches. If Johnson can't clear concussion protocol before the weekend and if Swift is forced to miss his first game of the season, the Bears would likely turn to Travis Homer and practice-squad member Darrynton Evans to take on most of the reps out of the backfield.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Listed as non-participant

Johnson (concussion) did not participate in Wednesday's practice. Johnson was forced out of last Thursday's loss to the Lions due to the concussion, and he didn't make enough progress through the five-step protocol to resume on-field work as the Bears kicked off Week 14 prep. With D'Andre Swift (quadricep) also sitting out practice Wednesday, special-teams ace Travis Homer took on extra reps out of the backfield during the session, and he could handle a key role on offense during Sunday's game against the 49ers if neither Swift nor Johnson are available. Darrynton Evans will also be a candidate for elevation from the practice squad to burnish the Bears' depth in the backfield.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Concussion confirmed

Johnson won't return to Thursday's game in Detroit due to a concussion. Late in the first half, Johnson was checked for a head injury, which now has been confirmed. He'll finish Week 13 action without a touch after recording a touchdown in back-to-back outings prior to Thursday's contest.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Getting concussion check

Johnson is under evaluation for a head injury during Thursday's game at Detroit. To add insult to injury in a first half in which the Bears went three and out on each of their first three possessions, their No. 2 RB may soon enter the concussion protocol. Johnson didn't have a touch prior to exiting in the second quarter.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Week 12 Waiver Priority List

In the first game under new offensive coordinator Thomas Brown in Week 11 against Green Bay, Johnson played a season-high 42 percent of the snaps, while D'Andre Swift played 57 percent, which was his lowest total since Week 3. I don't expect Johnson to replace Swift as Chicago's leading rusher, but Johnson had 10 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown against the Packers, along with one catch for 8 yards on one target. It's a situation to monitor moving forward, and Johnson is worth adding in all leagues for 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Slight usage in defeat

Johnson lost four yards on one rush and caught a five-yard pass in the Bears' 19-3 loss to the Patriots on Sunday. In the three games since Chicago's bye week, Johnson has handled nine touches for 28 yards and a touchdown. Unless the running back's role increases, Johnson will be difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Five touches in defeat

Johnson rushed three times for 13 yards and caught three passes for eight yards in the Bears' 29-9 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. After averaging 10 touches between Weeks 3 and 5, Johnson's role has been scaled back. In the last three games, the running back has handled a total of 12 touches for 60 yards and one touchdown. Johnson is likely to function in a low-volume role as long as D'Andre Swift continues to play well.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Week 9 Waiver Priority List

Johnson is worth rostering in all leagues as a handcuff to D'Andre Swift, and Johnson could be a lottery ticket if Swift were to miss any time due to injury. With a healthy Swift, Johnson isn't going to have much Fantasy value, although he does have four rushing touchdowns in his past four games. Johnson is worth carrying on your bench for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Finds end zone in defeat

Johnson rushed two times for six yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 18-15 loss to the Commanders on Sunday. Johnson posted between 25 and 30 yards in Weeks 3 through 5. However, the veteran has rushed seven times for 14 yards over Chicago's last two games. With D'Andre Swift playing at a high level, Johnson may have limited touches going forward.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Scores twice in victory

Johnson rushed 10 times for 25 yards and two touchdowns in the Bears' 36-10 win over the Panthers on Sunday. Johnson has been the clear change-of-pace runner behind D'Andre Swift since Week 3. During that time, the running back is averaging 10 touches, 34 yards and a touchdown. Although the yardage has been ordinary, the goal-line usage gives Johnson added fantasy value. If Swift happens to miss time at some point, Johnson would likely see a further expansion of his role in the offense.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Role could expand Week 4

Johnson could be in store for an expanded role in Sunday's game against the Rams after accounting for 62 yards from scrimmage on 12 touches in the Bears' Week 3 loss to the Colts, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. While head coach Matt Eberflus hasn't said outright that Johnson has earned more opportunities, the second-year back made a compelling case to pick up extra snaps and touches on the heels of his Week 3 performance. He was a rare bright spot in a Chicago rushing attack that has struggled mightily on the whole through the first three games. Starter D'Andre Swift has been limited to just 1.8 yards per carry on 37 totes, while Khalil Herbert (eight carries for 16 yards) hasn't fared much better in a more limited sample. Johnson, meanwhile, was a healthy inactive Week 1 and was limited to a special-teams role Week 2 before he capitalized on his first offensive snaps of the season in Indianapolis. Heading into the Week 4 game, the Bears probably won't offer much clarity on how the backfield snaps will be distributed, but Johnson at least makes for an appealing speculative add in leagues where he's available on the waiver wire.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Stashes (RB Preview)

I wouldn't feel comfortable starting any Bears running back at this point, but Johnson moved into must-roster status with his performance last week. He should be their primary passing downs back moving forward and he was their most effective rusher in Week 3. You just may have to wait a few more weeks before his role is big enough to count on.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Healthy scratch Sunday

Johnson (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday versus the Titans. The Bears placed a cap on Johnson's practice reps Wednesday and Thursday due to a toe injury, but after Friday's full session, he didn't carry a designation into the weekend. No matter, he won't be available to the Bears offense Week 1, leaving Khalil Herbert and Travis Homer as the reserve running backs behind D'Andre Swift. Johnson will turn his focus to making his season debut next Sunday at Houston.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Remains limited Thursday

Johnson (toe) remained limited in Thursday's practice. Johnson missed the Bears' final three preseason games after appearing in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 1. Even if Johnson is active for Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Titans, he appears to be firmly behind D'Andre Swift and Khalil Herbert on the backfield depth chart. Johnson has minimal redraft fantasy value at the moment.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Makes end-zone visit Sunday

Johnson tallied seven carries for 21 yards and one touchdown and hauled in all three targets for 38 yards during Sunday's 37-17 win versus the Falcons. The Bears backfield again didn't have the services of D'Onta Foreman on Sunday, only this time he was a healthy scratch instead of out due to a personal issue like he was in Week 16. The absence allowed Khalil Herbert to pace Bears running backs with 20 touches for 129 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown, while Johnson got in the act, too, with a 10-59-1 line. This marked Johnson's third outing in a row with at least nine touches, a span in which he's had 31 touches for 172 total yards and one TD. At the moment, Herbert is the team's No. 1 RB, but Johnson appears to be his primary backup as long as Foreman isn't in pads on game day.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Modest output with Foreman out

Johnson contributed 37 yards on nine carries and hauled in all three targets for 16 yards during Sunday's 27-16 victory over the Cardinals. The Bears were without D'Onta Foreman in Week 16 due to a personal matter, but Khalil Herbert was the running back who benefitted from the absence. Herbert paced the backfield with 21 touches for 121 yards from scrimmage and a TD, which towered over Johnson's modest 12, 53 and zero, respectively. Perhaps Chicago's coaching staff prefers the rookie fourth-round pick to stay in a change-of-pace role, no matter who among the trio is available, but Johnson wasn't the primary beneficiary this time around. His outlook for the final two games of the campaign may not necessarily be tied to whether or not Foreman is able to suit up down the stretch.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Week 16 Waiver Priority List

The Bears have a great matchup in Week 16 against the Cardinals, who are No. 2 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, but it's a guessing game of who will lead the team in touches. I'd lean toward D'Onta Foreman, but Johnson and Khalil Herbert (64 percent rostered) will also be in the mix. For Johnson, he's coming off a productive game against the Browns in Week 15 where he played the most snaps at 49 percent, and he finished with five carries for 36 yards and four catches for 24 yards on six targets. But in Week 14 against Detroit, he only had one carry for 6 yards. He might only be needed if the Bears are trailing, which might not happen against the Cardinals, so be cautious with him this week. As for Herbert, he's a desperation play at best. In his past two games, he has nine carries for 16 yards and one catch for 4 yards on one target.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Leads backfield in Week 15 loss

Johnson carried the ball five times for 36 yards and caught four of six targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Browns. Despite the modest volume, the rookie RB led the Bears' backfield in touches and scrimmage yards, as Khalil Herbert managed just 12 combined yards while D'Onta Foreman lost six yards on his six totes. Johnson could be Chicago's choice to head the committee the rest of the way as the team looks ahead to 2024, but the situation figures to be tough to predict from a fantasy perspective heading into a Week 16 clash with the Cardinals.
