John Kuhn: Retires from NFL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn announced Wednesday that he has officially retired from the NFL as a member of the Packers.

After going undrafted out of Division II Shippensburg in 2005, Kuhn broke into the NFL with Pittsburgh but enjoyed his best years in Green Bay. While serving as an effective lead blocker and occasional short-yardage threat, the fullback earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2014 and was a second-team All-Pro in 2011. After cutting ties with the Packers in 2016, Kuhn tried to keep his career alive in New Orleans, but he hadn't surfaced in the league since finishing the 2017 season on injured reserve with a torn biceps. Kuhn will retire with over 1,300 total yards, 19 rushing touchdowns, nine receiving scores and a pair of Super Bowl rings.

Saints' John Kuhn: Mutual interest to stay in New Orleans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Both the Saints and Kuhn appear to be interested in a reunion for the 2018 season, Herbie Teope of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Kuhn's 2017 campaign came to a close in Week 2 when he tore his biceps, with the 35-year-old subsequently landing on injured reserve shortly thereafter. Although he was designated to return from IR in late December, the Saints never formally activated him to the 53-man roster before the team's season ended with a divisional-round loss to the Vikings. It isn't clear when Kuhn will be back to full health, but the fullback may not have much of a market if he isn't able to reach a new deal with New Orleans.

Saints' John Kuhn: Designated to return from IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn (biceps) was designated Wednesday as one of the Saints' two players that can return from injured reserve, Mike Triplett of reports.

Kuhn resumed practicing Wednesday and will be eligible to return to the 53-man roster for the divisional round of the playoffs, if the Saints should advance. Given how well the New Orleans rushing attack has performed with Zach Line at fullback, it's not entirely clear where Kuhn would fit in on offense.

Saints' John Kuhn: Goes under knife
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn (biceps) underwent surgery Tuesday, Herbie Teope of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Kuhn's surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Florida, and it will effectively keep him sidelined for the rest of the season. The 35-year-old just signed on with the Saints, so whether he stays with them for another season may be an offseason decision.

Saints' John Kuhn: Planted on IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn (biceps) was placed on injured reserve, Adam Kaplan of ESPN reports.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Kuhn tore his biceps while practicing in London and will require surgery, effectively ending his season. Unless they bring in someone else on short notice, the Saints won't have a fullback available for Sunday's matchup with the Dolphins.

Saints' John Kuhn: Officially re-signs with Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn re-signed with the Saints on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Despite not being on the active roster, Kuhn was present for the Saints' Week 3 victory over the Panthers and then traveled with the team to London in advance of a Week 4 matchup with the Dolphins. Thus, Monday's signing was totally anticipated. However, as nothing more than fourth in line for carries behind Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson and Alvin Kamara, Kuhn's value remains minimal.

John Kuhn: Expected to re-sign with Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn is expected to re-sign with the Saints this week, Josh Katzenstein of the Times-Picayune reports.

Kuhn is aboard a flight to London as the Saints travel overseas for Week 4's matchup against the Dolphins, so it's clear they plan to have the fullback on the roster once again. He'll primarily serve as a blocker but could vulture goal-line carries under certain circumstances.

John Kuhn: Let go by New Orleans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn was released Thursday by the Saints, Herbie Teope of The Times-Picayune reports.

Kuhn re-signed with the Saints on Sept. 6, but he will now be released for the second time this season so that the team can bring in defensive lineman Kendall Langford. Teope reports that Kuhn may soon have an opportunity to return to the organization yet again.

Saints' John Kuhn: Returns to New Orleans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn re-signed with the Saints on Wednesday, Joel A. Erickson of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

The Saints previously released Kuhn on Sunday in a procedural move that allowed the team to make multiple waiver claims, but it was expected all along that the fullback would ultimately be brought back. It took just three days for Kuhn to officially become a Saint again, and despite dealing with a minor calf injury at the close of the exhibition schedule, he's on track to take the field Week 1. Kuhn has plenty of experience in short-yardage situations, though New Orleans has too crowded a backfield for him to become relevant in most formats.

John Kuhn: Released by Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn (calf) was released by the Saints on Sunday, John Katzenstein of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Kuhn is currently dealing with a minor calf injury, and despite being expected to take the field for Week 1, he was cut to make room for a pair of waiver claims made by the Saints this weekend. Kuhn has established himself as one of the most reliable fullbacks in the NFL, so he should be a high priority for any team with a need at the position. The Saints may re-sign him once they have figured out the rest of their roster.

Saints' John Kuhn: Dealing with minor calf issue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Despite suffering from a slight calf injury, Kuhn is expected to take the field Week 1 against the Vikings, Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune reports.

Given Kuhn's role with the club, his absence wouldn't leave owners looking for alternatives at the running back position. However, his exclusion from Week 1 would leave the likes of Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson without their lead blocker. He's expected to play, so those concerned should monitor his status further as the contest approaches.

Saints' John Kuhn: Re-signs with Saints
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn re-signed on a one-year deal with the Saints on Friday, Herbie Teope of reports.

Kuhn, who will turn 35 at the beginning of the upcoming season, totaled 37 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries to go along with 16 receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown in his first season with the Saints. He doesn't receive a ton of touches, but Kuhn's solidified himself as a goal-line threat and safety blanket for Drew Brees, which gives him a bit of value in deep fantasy formats.

Saints' John Kuhn: Five touchdowns in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn gained 37 yards on 18 carries and 70 yards on 16 receptions in 16 games in 2016. He also scored five touchdowns.

In his first season in New Orleans, Kuhn did what he has done best throughout his NFL career: score touchdowns. Still, the veteran fullback managed only 107 total yards in 16 games, which makes him an unappealing fantasy asset outside of touchdown-only leagues. Kuhn will be 35 years old when the 2017 season kicks off, and as an unrestricted free agent this offseason, his NFL future remains uncertain.

Saints' John Kuhn: Active in Week 16 versus Bucs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn (hip) is active for Saturday's Week 16 tilt versus the Bucs.

The goal-line specialist suffered a hip injury during Friday's practice, but is healthy enough to suit up on Saturday. Kuhn cedes the majority of carries to the duo of Tim Hightower and Mark Ingram, yet his short-yardage proficiency always gives him at least a fighting chance at a touchdown when the Saints get inside the five-yard line.

Saints' John Kuhn: Gains three total yards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn had a three-yard catch and didn't gain yardage in his lone rush in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.

Kuhn snapped a seven-game scoreless streak last week but returned to the schneid on Sunday. The pass-catching fullback has yet to top 15 total yards in a game thus far this season, so his value is tied heavily to his ability to score. After scoring four times in the first four games of the season, Kuhn has struck just once since the Saints' Week 5 bye.

Saints' John Kuhn: Vultures another touchdown
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn gained four yards on two carries, including a one-yard touchdown, and 11 yards on one reception in Sunday's loss to the Lions.

Kuhn scored 23 career touchdowns in eight seasons in Green Bay, and much like Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, Saints coach Sean Payton has also embraced using Kuhn near the goal line. Accordingly, despite logging only 27 touches (15 carries, 12 receptions) this season, the pulverizing fullback has managed to score five touchdowns. Still, because of his infrequent usage, Kuhn can safely be ignored in most fantasy leagues.

Saints' John Kuhn: Three touchdowns in win over Chargers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn carried three times for five yards and a pair of touchdowns in Sunday's 35-34 win over the Chargers. He also caught both of his targets for seven yards and a touchdown.

Kuhn was the epitome of a touchdown vulture Sunday, as he managed just 12 total yards on five touches, but he took three of those touches into the end zone. His third touchdown was especially important, as he plowed across the goal line from a yard out in the fourth quarter to put his team ahead, after the extra point. Kuhn totaled six touches in three weeks heading into this game, so he should not be viewed as a viable fantasy option despite his strong showing.

Saints' John Kuhn: Three touches in Week 2
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn rushed once for two yards and caught two passes for eight yards in Sunday's loss to the Giants.

The Saints don't run many I-formation sets, so Kuhn's playing time is somewhat limited as the team's starting fullback. Still, Kuhn now has three carries and two grabs through two games. While he's highly unlikely to have much utility in fantasy leagues this year, it's clear the Saints aren't afraid to give him the ball on offense, which could result in Kuhn vulturing a few touchdowns as the season progresses.

Saints' John Kuhn: Signs with Saints Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn signed with the Saints Friday, and is expected to join the team Saturday, Josh Katzenstein of NOLA News reports.

The veteran full back will be entering the 11th season of his career after spending the previous nine with the Packers. The Saints starting fullback, Austin Johnson, injured his knee in Thursday's practice. He subsequently underwent an MRI, but those results have not yet been made available. Regardless, Kuhn will have his eyes set on a starting fullback role with the team. While he does not figure to touch the ball much, he could be a threat in goal line situations.

John Kuhn: Hopes to play this year
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuhn is staying in shape and awaiting a call from any NFL team, Jason Wilde of ESPN reports.

Kuhn wasn't re-signed by the Packers after his contract expired in March, and he hasn't gotten calls from any other teams up to this point, though he has kept in shape in the hopes of playing this season. He's a powerful fullback who is a willing and capable blocker, and can carry the ball in short yardage situations. That being said, Kuhn has rushed for more than 50 yards in a season just once in his nine-year career, despite playing in all but five games during his eight seasons with Green Bay. He may provide value to an NFL team, but it's unlikely he has fantasy value in any format, especially at this point in his career.
