Ottawa at Florida

Panthers 5, Senators 3

SUNRISE, Fla. -- With Nathan Horton locked in the way he was, it's probably not all that surprising Tanner Glass scored his first NHL goal off an assist from him.

"Unbelievable," Glass said "It was a great pass to me. I saw it firsthand."

That was just one of the career-high four assists Horton had in Florida's 5-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

Glass redirected Horton's pass on a 2-on-2 rush to give Florida a 2-1 lead in the second period, and the Panthers went on to end a six-game losing streak against the Senators.

"I'm not much of a passer, but I'll take it," Horton said.

All-Star Tomas Vokoun stopped 43 shots, and Jay Bouwmeester, Stephen Weiss, David Booth and Gregory Campbell also scored for the Panthers.

Mike Fisher had a goal and two assists for Ottawa, which also got goals from Dean McAmmond and Chris Neil.

"It's frustrating," Fisher said. "It seems like every little breakdown or mistake, it's in our net. Defensively, we're not solid at all. Not playing strong, making some bad decisions and getting beat."

Ottawa played its sixth consecutive game without second-leading scorer Dany Heatley, out with a separated shoulder. Leading-scorer Daniel Alfredsson was back in the lineup after missing two games with a hip injury, but he was held pointless.

The Senators still lead the Eastern Conference with 64 points, but have lost five of their last six. The victory was only the third in 11 meetings against his former team for Florida coach Jacques Martin.

Ottawa's Ray Emery stopped 35 shots.

"I thought we were really good for two periods and I thought Ray was good for two periods," Ottawa coach John Paddock said. "In the third period we weren't very good and I didn't think he was very good."

Weiss broke a 2-2 tie at 18:32 on a 4-on-3, when he beat Emery on the stick side with a slap shot from the off wing.

His goal came in a wide-open second period when the teams each scored twice and combined for 39 shots.

Florida came into the period leading 1-0 on Bouwmeester's goal, but McAmmond tied it 13 seconds in when his routine wrist shot from a sharp angle trickled under Vokoun's blocker.

Glass, who had played in 21 games without scoring a point, gave Florida the lead again at 6:42. He hadn't registered a point in his first 21 NHL games.

"It's been a while," Glass said. "I've been waiting 22 games. It's a dream come true. It's great to get the monkey off my back, for sure."

Neil tied it again when he tipped Fisher's turnaround wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circle.

Booth increased Florida's lead to 4-2 at 1:08 of the third with a wrist shot from the high slot through Emery's legs. Campbell made it 5-2 at 11:18 when he put home his own rebound from the goal mouth.

Martin moved past Toe Blake and tied Pat Burns for eighth place on the career coaching victories list with 501. ... Florida's last victory over Ottawa had come on April 13, 2006. ... Florida D Cory Murphy returned to the lineup after missing 30 games because of a shoulder injury. ... Ottawa RW Brian McGrattan missed the game because of a shoulder injury.
