Chelios announced his retirement from professional hockey Wednesday.
Chelios played in just five NHL games back in 2018-19 with the Red Wings, recording five shots, seven hits and two PIM without picking up a point. Following his brief NHL foray, the Michigan State product headed over to the KHL, where he spent the past six seasons playing for Kunlun Red Star.

Jake Chelios: Packing bags for KHL
Chelios signed a contract with Kunlun Red Star of the KHL on Thursday, Patrick Williams of NHL.com reports.
Chelios spent most of his American professional career in minor or mid-professional leagues -- he bounced back and forth between the AHL and ECHL -- and didn't see any NHL ice time until the 2018-19 season, appearing in five games for the Red Wings. The blueliner will join former AHL Charlotte teammate Andrew Miller in the Kontinental Hockey League.

Red Wings' Jake Chelios: Finally makes NHL debut
Chelios went plus-1 with a pair of hits and a blocked shot over 17:11 of ice time in his NHL debut Friday. The Red Wings shut out the Devils, 4-0.
Chelios was afforded the opportunity to hit the big stage for the first time in his professional career due to veteran Jonathan Ericsson (lower body) being scratched. However, it's likely he would have gotten his cup of coffee either way, as the Wings have long since been eliminated from playoff contention and they've been getting a longer look at their low-cost fringe options. Chelios is 28 years old and set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Red Wings' Jake Chelios: Emergency recall
Chelios was called up from AHL Grand Rapids under emergency conditions Friday,
The emergency at hand concerns Jonathan Ericsson, who was unable to finish Thursday's game against the Sabres due to a lower-body injury. With all due respect to Chelios -- the son of Hall of Famer Chris Chelios -- a young defenseman just now getting called up to the NHL probably isn't going to make much noise in the fantasy realm. He's produced one goal and 13 assists over 59 games for the AHL's Griffins.

Red Wings' Jake Chelios: Earns one-year deal with Detroit
Chelios agreed to terms with the Red Wings on a one-year contract Sunday.
Jake is the son of NHL Hall of Famer and former Red Wing Chris Chelios, so this is a natural fit for the 27-year-old defenseman. Still, he checks out as a late-bloomer having exhausted a pair of contracts with the Hurricanes and remaining in pursuit of his NHL debut.

Hurricanes' Jake Chelios: Sent to waiver wire
Carolina waived Chelios on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
The Hurricanes are extremely deep at defense, so Chelios was always considered a long shot to make the team's Opening Night roster. If he goes unclaimed, he'll report to AHL Charlotte, where he's racked up 63 points in 149 games over the past two seasons.

Hurricanes' Jake Chelios: Pens one-year deal
Chelios inked a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Tuesday.
Chelios has registered 30-plus points in each of his last two minor-league seasons, showing flashes of potential. The 26-year-old is still looking to make his NHL debut, but he could get a look during the 2017-18 campaign. A Michigan State University product the son of Hall of Famer Chris Chelios is a converted forward, which should help him approach the game with an offensive mindset from the blue line.
