The Angels optioned Diaz to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.
As anticipated, Diaz was sent back to the minors one day after serving as the Angels' 27th man in the team's doubleheader Thursday with the Yankees. He appeared in long relief in the Angels' 6-1 loss in Game 1, covering four innings and striking out two while giving up two earned runs on four hits.
