Cardinals' Mike McKenry: Designated for assignment

McKenry was designated for assignment Tuesday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

McKenry made only two plate appearances since his promotion to the big leagues on July 7 and will now head back to the minors on assignment. Now on a waiver period, the 31-year-old will be able to be picked up by another big league club but could remain with Triple-A Memphis, where he's stayed since May.
