Week 13 (June 27-July 3) isn't the strongest for two-start pitchers. It's lacking in aces, which is how Jose Quintana manages to crack the top five, with the slumping Jeff Samardzija just behind him. I intended to be cautious with Noah Syndergaard, who's at risk of making no starts after leaving his last one with a sore elbow, yet there he is in the top 10 as usual.
The effect is twofold: more mid-level two-start pitchers who might be available on the waiver wire and more incentive to start them since your best pitchers are all making just one start.
It's fair to say the top 15 of these pitchers are already owned across all formats, but you may have some reservations about starting, say, Trevor Bauer at Toronto or Chris Archer against anybody. You're going to have to win on quantity, though, so you can't let the minor blemishes scare you away.
So what if Daniel Mengden is winless and unproven? He has yet to turn in a bad start. So what if Adam Conley is inconsistent and inefficient? He gets the Braves his second turn. So what if Matt Wisler can't buy a win pitching for the Braves? He goes deep into games and has a high floor at home, where he's not so vulnerable to home runs.
So what if Marco Estrada, an extreme fly-ball pitcher, is making a start at Coors Field? OK, well, you have to draw the line somewhere, and that's about where I draw mine. I'll at least say Estrada is borderline, as effective as he has been this year. Look how far J.A. Happ's Colorado start moves him down.
