Indians' Ryan Lavarnway: Designated for assignment

Lavarnway was designated for assignment Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Lavarnway had been serving as catching depth since early September. With Roberto Perez returning from a shoulder injury, he's no longer needed, so he'll be available for the rest of the league to claim off waivers. A 34-year-old with a career .217/.272/.345 slash line is unlikely to be of much interest to many teams, however.
