Nystrom was placed on waivers Wednesday in order for Nashville to buy out the remainder of his contract, Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports.

Nystrom was the subject of trade speculation heading into the 2016 NHL Draft, but it appears that after general manager David Poile was unable to find a team willing to give something up for the 33-year-old, the Predators will buy out the remaining year of his contract. The move will provide Nashville with an extra $2 million in cap space for 2016-17. Nystrom's production has continued to drop off over the past few years and he has been replaced on the depth chart by fellow wingers Colton Sissons and Miikka Salomaki, whom are younger and cheaper.
