Where does our expert have favorite Irish War Cry finishing at Monmouth Park? USATSI

The 50th Haskell Invitational on Sunday features a wide open field... at least that's what many people think.

There are only seven horses, and the favorite -- Irish War Cry -- is going off at 5/2. The longest odds belong to Hence, who's still getting 12/1. This race is made for the so-called "exotic" bets.

There's a method to picking which horses to focus on for trifecta and superfecta bets in the 2017 Haskell Invitational, and horse racing guru Jody Demling knows what it is.

In the Belmont, Demling nailed the 1-2 finish and also won his trifecta and superfecta tickets. Anyone who picked with him had a day to remember.

Here's a refresher on those bet types from horse racing guru Jody Demling:

Trifecta: Pick the first-, second- and third-place finishers in the correct order. A $1 ticket paid over $600 in the Belmont and over $150 in last year's Haskell.

Superfecta: Pick the first-, second-, third- and fourth-place finishers in the correct order. A $1 ticket paid over $4,400 in the Belmont and over $340 in last year's Haskell.

While Demling has no quibbles with the favorite status of Irish War Cry (5/2), he plans to hold tickets with the undefeated Timeline (3/1) and two underdogs. And one of those long shots is perfectly built for Haskell's distance.

Demling has specific recommendations for win, place, show, trifecta and superfecta so you can cover all your bases. And he's sharing them over at SportsLine.

So which horses do you take? And in what combinations? And what's the secret sauce in a small-field race like the Haskell? Visit SportsLine to get Demling's picks to win, place and show as well, as his favorite long-shot, trifecta and superfecta bets.
