In late August, veteran slugger Adam Dunn said he was leaning strongly toward retirement after the 2014 season. Now that Dunn's Athletics have been eliminated after Tuesday night's loss to the Royals in the AL Wild Card Game, Dunn's feelings haven't changed. Here's Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle:

He was still fully dressed at 1 a.m. Central time as the A’s clubhouse had all but emptied out.

At the age of 34 and with 462 career homers, Dunn said he still plans to retire.

“This is probably it,” he said.

Dunn played 2,001 regular season games before finally going to the playoffs for the first time. However, Dunn didn't appear in Tuesday night's game. As Slusser writes, though, Dunn has zero bitterness toward Oakland manager Bob Melvin for not getting him in the game.

If this is indeed the end for Dunn (note that the word "probably" of course leaves the door slightly open), then he'll retire with 462 home runs, good for 35th on the all-time list. As well, his 1,317 career walks rank 40th on the all-time list.
