AL All-Star balloting update: Royals taking over the world
The Royals now have the leader at seven of nine starting positions in the AL All-Star balloting. Omar Infante is real close to Jose Altuve at second base, too.
We have yet another in a seemingly infinite loop of All-Star balloting updates, and it appears the Kansas City Royals fans aren't losing steam. In fact, they are gaining it. Seven of the nine starting spots in balloting currently belong to Royals with Omar Infante real close to Jose Altuve at second base. Not only that, but Alex Rios is fourth in AL outfielders -- though it does seem a total longshot to get him past Mike Trout.
Still, it's something to behold. Check out these Royals.

Some of these are defensible, some stretches and others -- Kendrys Morales over Nelson Cruz or Mike Moustakas over Josh Donaldson -- are outright egregious. But guess what? It's fan voting and the Royals fans are trucking everyone else. That's their right and they can't help it if others don't step up.
It's hard to see MLB intervening, but there is precedent. Back in 1957, Major League Baseball stepped in when there were seven Reds starters (along with Stan Musial) elected and stripped fans of their voting rights.
Voting is still ongoing at MLB.com and will continue to be through July 2. If you have a problem, go vote. If you like the all-Royals starting lineup, go vote. To each his or her own.
