Diamondbacks retire No. 51 for Randy Johnson
The Diamondbacks retired No. 51 in honor of Hall of Famer Randy Johnson on Saturday.
Last month, Randy Johnson became the first player inducted into the Hall of Fame with a Diamondbacks cap on his plaque. On Saturday, Johnson became the third player to have his number retired by Arizona.
The D-Backs retired No. 51 in honor of Johnson during a pregame ceremony Saturday evening. He walked in from the Chase Field bullpen and received a huge ovation, and later played the drums. Here's the entire ceremony:

Johnson, now 51, played with the D-Backs from 1999-2004 and 2007-08. He helped the club win the 2001 World Series title and won four of his five Cy Young awards with Arizona.
The D-Backs signed Johnson to a four-year, $52 million contract during the 1998-99 offseason, and it is arguably the most successful free agent pitching contract in history. During those four seasons the Big Unit went 81-27 with a 2.48 ERA (187 ERA+) and 1,417 strikeouts in 1,030 innings. He racked up 38.3 WAR and won the Cy Young all four years.
All told, Johnson went 118-62 with 2.83 ERA (164 ERA+) and 2,077 strikeouts in 1,630 1/3 innings with Arizona. He is the franchise's all-time leader in pretty much every meaningful pitching category. Wins, ERA, strikeouts, innings, WAR, you name it.
Johnson played eight of his 22 big league seasons with the D-Backs. He won 303 career games overall and ranks second all-time in strikeouts (4,875) and ninth in WAR (104.3).
No. 51 is the third number retired by the D-Backs, joining No. 20 for Luis Gonzalez and the universally retired No. 42 for Jackie Robinson.
