Former Marlins exec, manager Dan Jennings joins Nationals

Jennings will serve in the front office under GM Mike Rizzo.

Former Marlins executive and manager Dan Jennings has joined the Nationals' front office, where he'll serve under general manager Mike Rizzo. A number of outlets have confirmed the initial report of Fox's Jon Morosi. 

Jennings, 55, had been a longtime exec and scout with the Marlins, and he served as the team's GM from 2013 through October of last year. As well, the Marlins also gave Jennings managerial duties in 2015 after Mike Redmond was fired in May -- this despite the fact that Jennings had never before managed at any level.

On Jenning's dugout watch, the Marlins went 55-69. Prior to joining the Marlins in 2002, Jennings served as scouting director for the then Devil Rays and as a scout with the Reds and Mariners.
