The Angels optioned starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker to Triple-A Salt Lake to clear a roster spot Sunday for Wade LeBlanc, who was recalled from the minors. Shoemaker, who started Saturday's 13-inning game against the Royals, was 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA in three May starts.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he told Shoemaker to stay ready because he will return to the rotation. Shoemaker has to spend 10 days in the minors unless a player goes on the disabled list. In that event, he can be recalled before 10 days.
