Stemming from his arrest this past September, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera has been charged with resisting arrest.

Back in the first week of September, it was reported that Cabrera was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana. Per the Associated Press, Cabrera has been cited for possession of marijuana in a car, which carries a fine of $100. The prosecutors don't plan to pursue DUI charges, according to the AP, leaving just the resisting arrest charge, which is a misdemeanor and could carry up to one year in jail.

Cabrera's arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 8.

In a statement (AP), the Padres said: "We are deeply troubled by the charges filed today against Everth Cabrera. We will defer to the judicial system to resolve the legal aspects of this case. As it relates to his future with the Padres, we will make a determination in the near future."

The charge caps roughly a season and a half of disaster for the 2013 All-Star. He was suspended for the final 50 games of the 2013 season due to his involvement with Biogenesis and then in 2014, while hampered with hamstring issues, hit just .232/.272/.300. And then the arrest in September and now the resisting arrest charges.

For now, Cabrera's clear to start the 2015 season with the Padres but, as the above statement indicates, that could always change.
