Rays pitcher Roberto Hernandez got the start Tuesday in Texas. He appeared to be in for a nice night after his first two scoreless innings, but eventually came undone in the defeat.

Hernandez allowed the Rangers to plate two runs in each of the third, fifth and seventh innings as he gave up six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits and two walks over 6 2/3 innings to fall to 0-2 for the Rays. He struck out four and needed 113 pitches to get two outs into the seventh.

Hernandez, who won the No. 5 rotation spot over Jeff Niemann and should hold it for a while as Niemann is likely done for the year, has not looked sharp this season after two outings. He's allowed 10 runs -- nine earned -- over 13 1/3 innings with 11 Ks.

The former Fausto Carmona will look to win his first game as a member of the Rays in his next start scheduled for Monday at Boston.
