Shane Greene shuts Tigers down in gem

Yankees pitcher Shane Greene twirled the finest start of his young career Thursday, and snapped a three-game winless streak in a 1-0 win over the Tigers.

Greene tossed a career-high eight innings in the shutout, scattering five hits and three walks in the win. He struck out five batters and walked three on 99 pitches as he pushed his record to 3-1 through six starts.

Green has logged three quality starts in his six major-league starts, while posting a 2.89 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 37 1/3 innings of work. He will go for an encore performance when he takes the mound next against the Orioles.
