Andrew Lambo: Released by Oakland
Lambo was released by the Athletics on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
Lambo had been on the disabled list with a wrist injury but was recently cleared to play. After he was given the go-ahead to return, Oakland opted to part ways with the 28-year-old. Lambo, who owns a career major-league batting average of just .189, will likely provide organizational depth if a team decides to sign him.

After a health scare over the offseason, Lambo came out of the gates strongly this spring, but given his lack of success in the big leagues last season, he was a victim of the A's spring roster cleaning. He'll likely spend much of the year at Triple-A but could leap back to the majors later in the season if his performance in the minors warrants it.

Athletics' Andrew Lambo: Looking strong as camp opens
Lambo, who is fully recovered from 2016 testicular cancer surgery, has made a positive first impression as he starts workouts as a non-roster invitee Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. "He looks like he's in good shape," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "God bless him. He's here, he's healthy. I know he's excited. He's always a very vocal guy, and I'm not trying to speak for him, but whenever you go through something like that that's bigger than baseball, when you get back to doing what you love to do, there's a certain amount of passion that goes along with it."
The 28-year-old outfielder, who broke camp with the A's last season but was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Apr. 2, logged only one major league plate appearance last season, his first in Oakland. Lambo was given a clean bill of health by his oncologist in December, setting the stage for another go-around with the team this spring. Lambo has slashed just .189/.230/.295 with one homer and three RBI over 95 major league at-bats and remains a long shot to make the regular-season roster.

Athletics' Andrew Lambo: Returns to A's on minor league deal
Lambo re-signed with the Athletics on a minor league contract Friday that includes an invitation to major league spring training, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Lambo is fully recovered from his testicular cancer surgery, so now he'll be able to resume his position in Oakland's organization. In his most recent action with Triple-A Nashville, the 28-year-old batted .255 with 30 RBI.

At this point in time, Lambo is still recovering from testicular cancer surgery, and there's no timeframe for his eventual return. During the 2015 season, Lambo played 56 games for Nashville, during which he hit .255/.321/.384.

Lambo was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Monday and then placed on the 60-day DL.
Lambo is undergoing treatment for testicular cancer and remains without a timetable to return to baseball activities, so the Athletics will be able to open up a 40-man spot by stashing him on the 60-day DL. The 27-year-old's long-term health remains a greater priority than his baseball career at this point, so the Athletics are content to give him as much time away from the game as he needs.

Athletics' Andrew Lambo: Undergoing cancer treatment
Lambo was placed on the 7-day DL on Tuesday after it was announced he has been undergoing surgery for testicular cancer, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
This is obviously very unfortunate news for the 27-year-old and he'll figure out the next steps following the results of further testing. Lambo's baseball career will be put on hold for the time being as he works towards a full recovery.

Lambo was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.
The 27-year-old outfielder has been shuttled between Triple-A and the majors a couple times in the last week, but he only got one at-bat during his stint at the big league level. He'll head back to Nashville while pitcher Eric Surkamp will join the A's for their series against the Mariners.

Lambo (foot) signed a one-year contract with the A's on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
A bout of plantar fasciitis sent Lambo to the DL in early May, and a late-July setback effectively ended his season with the Pirates. The A's picked Lambo up off waivers last month, but it's uncertain what kind of role he will fill in 2016, as the team could always bring in more outfield options over the winter.

Lambo, who made the Pirates' opening day roster last season, spent the majority of the year on the disabled list due to plantar fasciitis. In 20 games before landing on the DL, Lambo went 1-for-25 with eight strikeouts. He will likely compete for an outfield spot in Spring Training.
