  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Serves up three homers Thursday

Nola allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Thursday. Nola racked up 20 swinging strikes and seven punchouts, but he had trouble keeping the ball in the yard. Austin Riley -- who has victimized Nola for five homers over 48 career at-bats -- hit a pair of long balls against the right-hander, and Marcell Ozuna tagged him for another. Nola has given up at least one homer in seven straight starts, though this was the first time this season he's yielded multiple home runs in a game.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Season-high 10 strikeouts

Nola (4-3) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over seven innings during a 12-3 win over the Cubs. He struck out 10. Nola got early run support and recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts while cruising through seven innings en route to his fourth win. The lone blemish for the right-hander came via a two-run home run from Dansby Swanson, which continues to be a minor issue for Nola. He's allowed one home run in eight of his 10 starts and holds a 4.31 ERA across 62.2 innings. However, Nola's 1.07 WHIP and 53:13 K:BB to start the year remains elite and suggests the ERA will drop eventually.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Yields four runs in loss

Nola (3-3) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Rockies. Nola has gone at least six innings in seven of his nine starts this season. He lacked run support Sunday, leading to his first lost since April 11. The right-hander has maintained a pedestrian 4.53 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 43:12 K:BB through 55.2 innings this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Cubs in his next outing.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Sharp in Tuesday's win

Nola (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in an 8-4 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out six. The veteran right-hander appears to be warming up along with the weather. Nola's four-seam fastball averaged a season-high 93 mph in this outing and topped out at 95 mph, easing concerns about his April velocity, and he's delivered five quality starts in his eight trips to the mound in 2023. He'll take a 4.44 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 39:11 K:BB through 48.2 innings into his next outing, which is likely to come this weekend in Coors Field.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: No-decision in loss

Nola did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out five. Nola pitched well for most of Wednesday's outing, but his streak of three consecutive quality starts was snapped after Chris Taylor tripled in the seventh inning and scored on Freddie Freeman's sacrifice fly. While Nola sports an unsightly 4.64 ERA, a solid 1.13 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB would indicate that positive regression is coming. He's currently lined up to face the Blue Jays at home in his next outing.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Pitches gem in win

Nola (2-2) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings against the Astros. He struck out six and did not walk a batter. Nola had his best start of the season by far, as the only blemish against him was solo home run by Jeremy Pena. The right-hander tossed seven innings in his previous appearance against the Rockies last week, so he appears to be settling in after he posted a 7.04 ERA across his first three starts of the year. The 29-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Dodgers on the road in his next start.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Dominates in win

Nola (2-2) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings against the Astros. He struck out six without walking a batter. Nola provided his best start of the season in a World Series rematch. The righty posted season-best numbers in innings pitched, strikeouts, runs allowed and hits allowed, lowering his ERA to 4.46 in the process.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Settles down after shaky first

Nola did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings during a 4-3 win over the Rockies. He struck out three. Nola allowed back-to-back, one-out singles to Kris Bryant and Charlie Blackmon in the first before serving up a three-run shot to Ryan McMahon with two outs. However, that was the only damage Colorado could muster against the right-hander, who cruised through six scoreless frames after his shaky first. After walking just three batters through his first three starts, Nola has given up three walks in back-to-back starts, and he currently sports a 5.40 ERA with a modest 22:9 K:BB through five starts (28.1 innings).

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Picks up first win

Nola (1-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in six innings during a 14-3 victory over the Reds. He struck out four. Nola was handed a nine-run lead after the top of the first, and the veteran right-hander took advantage by limiting damage while cruising through six innings, notching his first win and second quality start. Through four outings (21.1 innings), Nola's ERA sits at 5.91, but he has a strong 19:6 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Philadelphia's upcoming four-game set versus Colorado.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Stuck with second loss

Nola (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings as the Phillies fell 8-4 to the Marlins. He struck out six without walking a batter. It was an ominous sign for Nola when light-hitting Jon Berti took him deep for a solo shot in the third inning, but the right-hander didn't allow another run until the wheels came off in the sixth. He exited after 100 pitches (70 strikes), and while Nola's 7.04 ERA through his first three starts looks rough, it comes with a 15:3 K:BB through 15.1 innings that should reassure GMs that have him rostered. The 29-year-old will look for a better result in his next outing, likely to come this weekend in Cincinnati.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Efficient in loss

Nola (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk through six innings against the Yankees. He struck out five. Nola's outing was undoubtedly an improvement compared to his Opening Day performance. The right-hander was tagged with a run in the first inning, but he kept the Yankees scoreless until the sixth inning and would eventually depart after his only walk of the game plated a third earned run in the seventh. While Nola still has yet to make it into the win column, he is trending in the right direction. The 29-year-old displayed better control, throwing 62 of his 87 pitches for strikes, and did a better job of staying ahead in his counts. Nola is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday against the Marlins.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Unravels in fourth inning

Nola allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision. Nola out-dueled Jacob deGrom for much of his outing, as he blanked the Rangers through three frames. However, things deteriorated quickly in the fourth inning when he allowed five of the first six batters he faced to reach base. That stretch culminated with a three-run homer by Robbie Grossman. Nola is coming off an excellent 2022 season during which he posted a 3.25 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, so there's no need to panic over one poor outing to begin the new campaign.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Gets another Opening Day start

Nola has been named the Phillies' Opening Day starter. It will be the sixth straight season that he's taken the ball Opening Day. The Phillies are hoping it won't be his last, but Nola is slated to hit free agency after the season. He'll square off against the Rangers and Jacob deGrom on March 30.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Engaged in extension talks

Nola and the Phillies have begun negotiations on a potential long-term contract extension, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Nola is locked in at a $16 million salary for 2023, but he's currently scheduled to reach free agency once this year's postseason concludes. Gelb writes that there "appears to be momentum for an agreement sometime this spring" and notes that Nola reiterated Friday that his desire is to remain with Philadelphia for the foreseeable future. The 29-year-old right-hander registered a stellar 3.25 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 235:29 K:BB across 205 regular-season innings (32 starts) last year for the NL champs.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Option for '23 picked up

The Phillies exercised Nola's $16 million team option for 2023 on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Nola has held up to his end of the bargain and then some since signing a four-year, $45 million extension with the Phillies in March 2019, with the 16.1 WAR he's accumulated over that four-season stretch placing him sixth among all MLB pitchers. The 29-year-old right-hander will once again be back with the Phillies at a team-friendly rate in 2023 before he hits free agency for the first time next winter. The Phillies could look to negotiate with Nola on a long-term deal in the months to come to ensure he doesn't make it to the open market next offseason.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Takes loss in Game 4

Nola pitched four innings and took the loss during Wednesday's 5-0 loss to the Astros in Game 4 of the World Series, allowing three runs on seven hits and zero walks while striking out four. Nola was outdueled by Astros starter Cristian Javier, who kept the Phillies hitless through six innings. The 29-year-old Nola allowed three singles in a row before being removed in the fifth inning, and the bullpen was not able to help him out. Jose Alvarado hit the first batter he faced and then surrendered a two-run double to Alex Bregman in what eventually became a five-run fifth inning. After two starts of six innings and zero earned runs for his first two postseason starts, Nola has now allowed at least three runs in the last three appearances while failing to get through five innings each time. He is 2-2 with a 5.36 ERA across 15.2 innings in the postseason.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Tagged for five runs in Game 1

Nola pitched 4.1 innings and did not factor into the decision during Friday night's Game 1 of the World Series, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five in the 6-5 win over the Astros. Nola fell victim to a stellar performance by Kyle Tucker, who tagged him for two home runs and four RBI. Other than Tucker, the Astros were just 4-for-16 with two walks against the 29-year-old righty. Nola was able to settle down after the three-run homer in the third inning made the score 5-0, retiring the next six batters and giving the Phillies a chance to make a comeback. Although the Phillies were able to come away with the win, Nola has now given up six runs and failed to reach the sixth inning in back-to-back starts.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Tagged for six runs in loss

Nola took the loss Wednesday afternoon after 4.2 innings of work, surrendering six runs on seven hits and zero walks while striking out six during the 8-5 defeat to the Padres in Game 2 of the NLCS. Nola's offense gave him a 4-0 lead to work with, but a two-run second inning followed by four more runs in the fifth proved enough to knock him out of the game. Nola had gone three straight starts with six innings of scoreless work, but the Padres were able to pile on hits in bunches against the 29-year-old righty. In his lone start against the Padres during the regular season, Nola delivered a one-run, 10-strikeout performance over seven innings, but the new-look Padres offense gave him problems in Game 2. Nola's postseason ERA jumped from 0.00 to 3.16, but he does have 18 strikeouts across 17.1 innings.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Perfection spoiled in seventh

Nola (11-13) earned the win against the Astros on Monday, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over 6.2 innings. After retiring the first 20 batters of the game, Nola allowed back-to-back singles to Yordan Alvarez and David Hensley with two out in the seventh inning. Interim manager Rob Thomson then pulled Nola with 88 pitches in favor of the L/L matchup between Kyle Tucker and reliever Jose Alvarado, who won the matchup with a punchout to position Nola to earn his 11th victory. Nola closes the regular season currently fourth in the majors with 235 strikeouts to go along with a 3.25 ERA through 205 innings.

  • Phillies' Aaron Nola: Takes 13th loss

Nola (10-13) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits over six innings against the Cubs. He struck out eight. Nola cruised through the first four innings, striking out six while allowing just one hit. However, things unraveled for him in the fifth after he allowed back-to-back singles to Nico Hoerner and Patrick Wisdom to begin the inning and then hit Alfonso Rivas with a pitch two batters later. Christopher Morel would then add a three-run shot to top off a four-run inning on Nola, who came in having allowed just one home run this month. The right-hander has now lost three of his last four decisions. He is projected to take on the Astros in Houston in his next start.
