Alonso went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of the Blue Jays.
The first baseman took future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer deep in the fifth inning, Alonso's ninth homer in September and his 41st of the season. His first year with Baltimore has gone as well as the team could have hoped -- in addition to an .871 OPS that's tied for the second-best mark of his career, he's reached the 40-homer mark for the fourth time and the 100-RBI plateau for the fifth time. Alonso went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 7-5 extra-innings win over the Mets.

The blast was his 36th homer of the season and 300th of his career, prompting Mets fans to chant his name until he emerged for a rare road curtain call. Alonso hit 264 of those homers with New York before joining Baltimore, and his milestone shot helped the Orioles eventually prevail in 11 innings. It was Alonso's fourth homer of the month, and he's hitting .255 with an .871 OPS across 14 games since the beginning of September.

Over his past 25 games, Alonso is batting .269 (25-for-93) with eight homers and 19 RBI as Baltimore tries to stay in the wild-card picture.

Orioles' Pete Alonso: Avoids injury following early departure
Alonso (head) is expected to be fine after exiting Sunday's 8-5 win in the eighth inning following a hit-by-pitch, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Alonso took a 94.6 mph fastball off the bill of his helmet from reliever Kade Morris to open the top of the eighth inning, and Jackson Holliday immediately replaced him as a pinch-runner at first base. Following the contest, manager Craig Albernaz provided an update on Alonso, stating that the first baseman is "fine" and that the plan was always for Holliday to pinch-run in that situation. Alonso can be considered day-to-day for the time being, but he'll likely be good to go for Monday's series opener with the Rockies.
