  • Mets' Luisangel Acuna: Headed for Queens

The Mets will recall Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Acuna has been unimpressive at the plate during his first season at the Triple-A level, slashing .258/.299/.355 with seven homers and 50 RBI, though his 40 stolen bases is certainly noteworthy. Despite his offensive struggles, he'll head up to the majors to provide the big club with some additional infield depth while Francisco Lindor manages a lower-back injury. Eddy Alvarez will most likely get the starting nod if Lindor needs to miss any time, though the speedy Acuna could be used as a pinch runner at some point.

  • Mets' Luisangel Acuna: Makes cameo off bench Saturday

Acuna (foot) came off the bench and went 0-for-1 while playing four innings at shortstop Saturday in Triple-A Syracuse's 7-1 loss to Columbus. Acuna was scratched from the lineup ahead of Thursday's game versus Columbus due to a foot injury, and while he has yet to return to the starting nine, his ability to enter the game off the bench Saturday suggests he'll avoid a trip to the 7-day injured list. The 22-year-old infielder is hitting .262/.311/.357 with five home runs and 31 stolen bases over 98 games with Syracuse this season.

  • Mets' Luisangel Acuna: Scratched with foot injury

Acuna was removed from Thursday's lineup for Triple-A Syracuse due to a foot injury, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. The Mets haven't shed light on the severity of Acuna's foot injury, so he can be viewed as day-to-day. Acuna hasn't hit particularly well with Syracuse this season, maintaining only a 73 wRC+ and .303 wOBA across 442 plate appearances.

  • Rangers' Luisangel Acuna: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Acuna was added to the Rangers' 40-man roster Tuesday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. One of Ronald Acuna's younger brothers, Luisangel hit .278/.367/.425 with a 23.6 percent strikeout rate, 11 home runs and 40 stolen bases in 91 games across High-A and Double-A as a 20-year-old. At roughly 5-foot-8, he lacks his big brother's power potential and physicality, but Acuna is still ahead of schedule on his ascent up the organizational ladder.

  • Rangers' Luisangel Acuna: Suffers hamstring strain

Acuna will miss at least two weeks with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Acuna suffered the injury during High-A Hickory's season opener Friday. As long as the injury remains a fairly short-term problem, it shouldn't significantly set his development back this season.

  • Rangers' Luisangel Acuna: Expected to start 2022 in High-A

Acuna is expected to open 2022 at High-A Hickory, according to Baseball America. He got off to a terrible start last season, so his final batting line (.266/.345/.404) at Low-A doesn't jump off the page. That said, Acuna was only 19, and he ended up hitting 12 homers and swiping 44 bases, with his 10.4 percent walk rate offering some promise as well. He'll likely never develop the power that his brother, Ronald, has shown off in the majors, but Luisangel is flashing plenty of promise in his own right. It's not unreasonable to think that a big 2022 could get him on the radar for a promotion sometime in 2023.
