  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Blasts two-run homer

Wiemer went 1-for-3 with two walks and a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Reds. Wiemer put the Brewers on the board with a two-run home run in the second, marking his sixth long ball of the season. The 24-year-old rookie has been thrust into an expanded role in 2023 due to injuries to Tyrone Taylor (elbow) and Garrett Mitchell (shoulder), and while Wiemer's .201/.271/.366 slash line doesn't pop off the page, he's showcased a versatile skill set by smashing six home runs and stealing nine bags through 55 games (181 plate appearances). He's also played an above-average center field, which should keep him in the lineup on a regular basis.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Goes yard in win

Wiemer went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Astros. Wiemer got the Brewers on the board in the third with a towering shot to center field but went down swinging his other two times up. It has been a rough go at the plate for the 24-year-old rookie, who is now slashing .204/.267/.365 with five homers, 14 RBI, 17 runs, five steals and 12:42 BB:K over 150 plate appearances. He has struck out multiple times in four of his last six games but is still garnering a majority of the starting share in center field.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Not in starting nine

Wiemer will sit Saturday against the Rays. Wiemer sits for the first time since Garrett Mitchell went down with a torn labrum in mid-April, ending a streak of 26 consecutive starts. The regular playing time hasn't led to much success at the plate, as he's hitting just .208/.273/.354, though his four homers and five steals have kept his fantasy value from bottoming out. Tyrone Taylor will be the center fielder Saturday.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Goes deep in win

Wiemer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. Wiemer launched a solo home run off Jordan Montgomery in the fifth to even the game at 2-2 but struck out his other three times up. It was his second homer in May and just his fourth of the year. The 24-year-old has struggled to get going at the plate since he opened up the year with a hit in seven straight games. He's now struck out 11 times over his last 22 plate appearances and is slashing just .208/.275/.360 with 11 extra base hits, 13 RBI, 16 runs and a 12:37 BB:K over 138 plate appearances thus far.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Drives in four runs

Wiemer went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Dodgers. Wiemer broke a scoreless tie with a three-run shot in the fifth inning. He then added an RBI double in the seventh, which ended up being the go-ahead run, before crossing home himself. Wiemer's last home run and multi-hit game happened April 26; in the nine games between those two performances, he went 4-for-26 (.154).

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Records steal Sunday

Wiemer went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Giants. Wiemer picked up his second steal in the last three games, but he's hitting a meager .118 (2-for-17) through six contests in May. The outfielder hasn't been shy on the basepaths, swiping five bags on six attempts this season. He's slashing .208/.286/.327 with two home runs, seven RBI and 11 runs scored through 112 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Sleeper hitters for Week 6 (May 1-7)

While Joey Wiemer certainly hasn't embarrassed himself, he has yet to really take off the Brewers. A few multi-hit games over the past week, though, may have him good and warmed up for a three-game series at Coors Field.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: On base three times Sunday

Wiemer went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and scored twice in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox. Wiemer had an impactful day at the plate. He doubled to lead off the fifth and came around to score off the bat of Christian Yelich. He then walked to kick things off in the seventh and later scored again after he stole second. It was Wiemer's second multi-hit effort over his last four games but just his third of the young season. He's struggled to hit for average but has maintained a patient eye at the plate, slashing .219/.315/.328 with a homer, five RBI, seven runs and a 9:15 BB:K over 73 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Clubs first big-league homer

Wiemer went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Mets. Getting the start in center field and hitting ninth, Wiemer crushed his first career homer off David Peterson in the second inning, driving the ball the opposite way over the wall in right field. The 24-year-old outfielder has looked great since his promotion, batting .353 (6-for-17) through five games, and it may not be long before Wiemer works his way into a more fantasy-friendly spot in the order.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Snags first steal

Wiemer went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's victory over the Mets. Wiemer reached base three times for the first time in his career, and he also picked up his first steal in the big leagues. He has not hit higher than ninth as of yet, but he has helped set the table for the top of the order, recording five hits and a pair of walks over 15 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Gets third straight start

Wiemer will start in right field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Mets. The righty-hitting Wiemer will be picking up his third consecutive start Monday, with the last two coming against right-handed pitchers. While he's up with the big club, the 23-year-old rookie looks like he'll be playing on an everyday basis in the outfield with Brian Anderson having moved back to the infield to cover third base in place of the injured Luis Urias (hamstring). Wiemer displayed some contact issues during his time in the high minors and could struggle to keep his batting average above .250, but his plus power and speed make him an intriguing fantasy option nonetheless while he's playing regularly.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Possible waiver wire pickups

Joey Wiemer was one of the last cuts from spring training, with the Brewers opting for a plan that seemed doomed from the beginning: Brian Anderson in right field and Luis Urias at third base. It fell apart after one day, with Urias suffering a long-term hamstring injury and Anderson shifting back to third base. Wiemer is a tremendous athlete who's been a 20-homer, 30-steal guy in the minors each of the past two years. He has strikeout concerns and a goofy swing that scouts aren't confident will hold up to major-league pitching, but in five-outfielder Roto leagues especially, rostering him is a must just in case.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Receiving promotion

The Brewers will promote Weimer to the major-league roster before Saturday's game against the Cubs, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Wiemer came up short of making the Opening Day roster, but he'll receive a promotion to Milwaukee after missing just the first game of the year. The 23-year-old outfielder showed well in spring training, and he hit 21 homers with an .801 OPS for Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville in 2022 while stealing 31 bases. Because of his power/speed potential, Wiemer is definitely a prospect with fantasy upside if he secures a regular role.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Falls short of Opening Day roster

Wiemer was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Brewers on Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Wiemer seemed to have some recent momentum in regards to his chances of making the Opening Day roster, but ultimately he came up short with Owen Miller getting the final position player spot. While he will go down to Triple-A Nashville for now, Wiemer has set himself up along with Sal Frelick to be considered for a promotion if an outfielder is needed.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Candidate for Opening Day roster

Wiemer has a chance to make Milwaukee's Opening Day roster, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "We have uncertainty in the outfield right now and that's created some opportunities for guys," manager Craig Counsell said Saturday. With Garrett Mitchell (hamstring) questionable for the start of the season and Tyrone Taylor (elbow) expected to miss the first month of the season, the Brewers don't have any healthy outfielders who bring both defense and offensive upside to the table. Enter Wiemer, whose only non-plus tool is his hit tool, as he has the arm for right field and the speed and glove for center field. He has hit .231 with two home runs, two steals, six strikeouts and three walks in 26 at-bats this spring. The Brewers also have Luke Voit hanging around in hopes of being added to the 40-man roster, so there will have to be quite a bit of roster juggling to squeeze Wiemer onto the 40-man and Opening Day rosters. However, his defensive chops and the mounting injuries in Milwaukee give him a chance.

  • Brewers' Joey Wiemer: Striking out at furious pace

Wiemer hasn't homered since June 22 for Double-A Biloxi, and he's hit just .131/.221/.164 with 25 strikeouts in his last 16 games. He's gone down on strikes at a startling 36.8 percent clip in that span, pushing his season-long strikeout rate to 30.9 percent. While Wiemer has displayed power (15 homers) and speed (24 steals in 25 tries) alike in Double-A, he's been unable to replicate the far sharper plate discipline he showed in the lower levels of the minors last season.
