  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Decent in no-decision

Bido took a no-decision Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out one. The 29-year-old right-hander faired well in this 90-pitch outing, firing 58 strikes. The lone blemish on Bido's performance was a leadoff 400-foot home run surrendered to Joshua Palacios to open the game, which is the third straight start in which he's allowed a homer. Through 31.1 innings, Bido has pitched to a 4.88 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 17:12 K:BB. He currently lines up to make his next start against the Marlins in Miami next weekend.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Trampled by Texas

Bido (2-2) took the loss Tuesday as the A's fell 8-5 to the Rangers, surrendering eight runs on eight hits -- including four home runs -- and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out two. The right-hander came into the night having served up just one long ball in his first four starts, but Bido was victimized by his home park Tuesday, as Sutter Health Park continues to be very hitter-friendly. He has yet to last six innings in any of his five trips to the mound this season, hurting his fantasy value in formats that use quality starts, and his 4.85 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB through 26 innings aren't very appealing either. Bido will look to rebound in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the White Sox.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Nabs win despite no punchouts

Bido (2-1) earned the win over the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He did not strike out any batters. Bido didn't miss many bats with a modest seven whiffs and zero strikeouts, but he nonetheless pitched effectively. The right-hander gave up just one run (on a Brooks Baldwin solo homer) and threw an efficient 55 of 83 pitches for strikes. Bido is far from the flashiest pitcher in the league, but he's gotten the job done for the Athletics so far this season, going at least five innings in all four of his starts to date and giving up no more than two runs in any outing. He has a 2.61 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 20.2 innings on the season, and despite Wednesday's lack of punchouts, he's usually good for a handful of Ks -- in his first three starts, he tallied 14 strikeouts across 15 frames.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Falls to San Diego

Bido (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Padres, allowing two runs on nine hits across five innings. He struck out five. Bido did a good job of limiting the damage against a potent Padres offense. However, a pair of runs proved enough to stick the right-hander with his first loss in a 2-1 defeat. The 29-year-old Bido now has a 3.00 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB through his first three starts (15 innings) this season. He's currently in line to face the White Sox in his next outing.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Wins spot in rotation

Bido has won a spot in the Athletics' rotation, manager Mark Kotsay told Martin Gallegos of MLB.com on Wednesday. Bido entered camp with seemingly a lock on a rotation spot but has struggled with a 9.24 ERA this spring with five home runs allowed in 10.2 innings. That left a little uncertainty for his spot in the rotation until this announcement. Bido made a strong impression with a 3.41 ERA and 24.3 percent strikeout rate last season. He could be a late bloomer at age 29.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Goes on IL with wrist injury

The Athletics placed Bido on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right wrist flexor tendinitis. Bido had been slated to start Tuesday in Houston but instead is headed to the IL for at least the next two weeks. JP Sears will now be the starting pitcher for the Athletics on Tuesday. Bido has been a bright spot in Oakland's rotation this season, collecting a 3.41 ERA and 63:26 K:BB over 63.1 innings covering nine starts and seven relief appearances.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Takes win against Rays

Bido (5-3) picked up the win Thursday against Tampa Bay, allowing one run on two hits and three walks across five-plus innings. He struck out six. After tossing back-to-back shutout starts, Bido was excellent once again Thursday. He allowed two or fewer hits in for a third consecutive start and punched out six batters for the fifth time in his last six outings. After posting a sub-par 5.86 ERA with the Pirates in 2023, Bido has a 3.24 ERA and a 51:24 K:BB across 50 innings this season. The 28-year-old is tentatively scheduled to face the Reds in Cincinnati next.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Throws six scoreless in win

Bido (3-3) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five across six scoreless innings. Bido followed up his first quality start of the season Sunday with the best start of his career, silencing the Blue Jays in a 1-0 victory. He generated 11 swinging strikes on 89 pitches and did not allow a single hard-hit ball. On the season, the 28-year-old owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 39:19 K:BB across 39 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Giants next weekend.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Hit hard in Sunday's start

Bido (2-2) took the loss against the Angels on Sunday, allowing seven earned runs on six hits, four walks and a hit batsman over 3.2 innings. He struck out six. Bido's swing-and-miss numbers weren't bad, but he otherwise had a rough go of it against what had been a light-hitting Angels squad. He actually cruised through his first two frames, but his unraveling began in a third inning during which the Angels sliced a 6-0 deficit in half via a Luis Rengifo RBI groundout and Willie Calhoun two-run single. Bido then issued three walks and a go-ahead grand slam to Taylor Ward in the fourth, putting the right-hander on the hook for the eventual loss. The 28-year-old saw his ERA shoot up from 3.09 to 5.00 with the rocky outing, but Bido is likely to remain in the rotation for the time being and projects to draw an unenviable matchup in the Dodgers for his next start this coming weekend.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Staying in rotation

Bido is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Angels in Anaheim. Bido appeared to be in line for just a spot start when he was called upon Tuesday to take the hill against the Astros. However, after striking out six while allowing just one run over five innings en route to picking up a win, Bido will get at least one more opportunity to stake a claim to a more permanent spot in the Oakland rotation. The Athletics cleared up their logjam in the rotation by optioning Hogan Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday and by shifting Joey Estes to the bullpen earlier this weekend.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Pitches five strong innings

Bido (2-1) got the win over the Astros on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six over five innings. Bido made his second start of the season and his first since May 8 when he debuted this year and made easy work of a tough Astros lineup. His lone mistake was serving up a solo home run to Victor Caratini in the third. Bido struggled with his control early on in the year, as evidenced by his 11 walks over his first 14.1 innings pitched this season. However, he's turned things around by issuing zero free passes over his last nine innings. Bido's five innings and six strikeouts also matched his season highs. The 28-year-old owns a 3.09 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB in 23.1 innings and could end up permanently slotting into the Athletics' fifth rotation spot with Luis Medina being diagnosed with a right elbow sprain. Should Bido get another start, it would come this weekend against the Angels.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Another stellar long-relief effort

Bido fired 4.2 scoreless relief innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing two hits and three walks while recording two strikeouts. He also uncorked a wild pitch and hit a batter. Bido's control was an issue at times, as his final line indicates; otherwise, the young right-hander delivered his second effective innings-eating performance of the past week, this time preserving the rest of the bullpen after starter Hogan Harris was chased in the fourth inning. Bido ended up throwing nearly as many pitches (62) as Harris' 73, so the former is likely to be unavailable until the middle of the week at the earliest. However, the 28-year-old may be carving out a legitimate niche for himself in Oakland's relief corps for the time being after struggling over 2.2 innings against the Rangers in his one major-league start this season on May 8.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Sent back to Triple-A

The Athletics optioned Bido (finger) to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. Bido served as the Athletics' 27th man in last Wednesday's doubleheader with the Rangers. He started the second game of the twin bill and was dealt the loss after giving up four earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four across 2.2 innings in a 12-11 Rangers victory. Bido dealt with a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand, so it's unclear if he'll be ready to start when his next turn through Las Vegas' rotation comes up.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Removed with blister

Bido was removed from his start Wednesday due to a blister on his right middle finger, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Bido allowed four earned runs before he was removed from the game midway through the third inning. The severity of his injury is unclear, but the A's haven't given any indication that Bido will have to miss his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Confirmed for start Wednesday

Bido will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Bido has earned a look after collecting a 2.59 ERA and 39:13 K:BB across 31.1 innings with Las Vegas this season. With Joe Boyle (back) landing on the 15-day injured list, it's possible Bido will be asked to make additional starts for Oakland beyond Wednesday.

  • Osvaldo Bido: Dumped by Pittsburgh

Bido was non-tendered by the Pirates on Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Bido posted a less-than-promising 5.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 48:21 K:BB over his first 50.2 big-league innings in 2023. The 28-year-old right-hander is now a free agent.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Sent back to Triple-A

Pittsburgh optioned Bido to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Bido was lit up for eight earned runs over 2.1 innings of relief Saturday against the Cubs. Cody Bolton will join the Pirates as a fresh bullpen arm ahead of Sunday's series finale.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Strikes out six in loss

Bido (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Twins. He allowed two runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out six over 3.1 innings. Bido threw 69 pitches in bulk-relief work behind opener Ryan Borucki, and despite the two runs allowed pitched effectively with six strikeouts and no walks. Bido has previously started eight games for the Pirates, but this was his second extended relief outing. It remains to be seen whether he'll officially rejoin the rotation or continue to work extended innings in relief.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Recalled from Indianapolis

The Pirates recalled Bido from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday. With Carmen Mlodzinski (elbow) headed for the injured list, Bido will come up from Triple-A to fill the open bullpen spot. Bido holds a 5.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 37 innings in the majors this season and could end up serving as a bulk reliever behind Andre Jackson, who will make his first MLB start Saturday against the Reds but isn't expected to work deep into the contest.

  • Pirates' Osvaldo Bido: Yields four runs

Bido allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits over four innings in Monday's win over Atlanta. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision. Bido was untouchable through three perfect frames but Atlanta's bats got going and plated four runs in the fourth inning. He's coughed up 10 earned runs over his last 12.2 innings, raising his season ERA from 4.44 to 5.35 in the process. The rookie hasn't thrown more than four frames in an outing since June 24. Bido is lined up to face the Reds at home this weekend.
