  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Activated, sent to Triple-A

The Rockies reinstated Rolison (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. Though Rolison still had time left in his 30-day rehab window, the southpaw didn't have a spot in the big-league rotation waiting for him, so the Rockies opted to activate him early. He'll now continue to make regular starts out of the Albuquerque rotation and work to hone his command and control after missing the entire 2022 season while recovering from surgery to repair the labrum of his left shoulder. Over his first three rehab outings between Albuquerque and Single-A Fresno, Rolison allowed nine runs on 12 hits and six walks while striking out nine in 10 innings.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Starts up rehab assignment

Rolison (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Single-A Fresno on Tuesday and tossed three scoreless innings, striking out three while allowing two hits and one walk. Rolison missed the entire 2022 season and eventually underwent surgery last June to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, but he looks to be just a few weeks away from returning from the 60-day injured list. Heading into the season, the Rockies may have initially been planning to option Rolison to Triple-A Albuquerque at the conclusion of his 30-day rehab window, but long-term elbow injuries to German Marquez and Antonio Senzatela have already tested the organization's thin pitching depth. If Rolison continues to fare reasonably well when he eventually moves his rehab assignment to higher-level affiliate, he could have a spot in the big-league rotation waiting for him once he's activated.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Throws side session

Rockies manager Bud Black said Wednesday that Rolison (shoulder) recently completed a bullpen session without incident, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Rolison is currently on the 60-day injured list while recovering from the left shoulder surgery he underwent last June. The southpaw will likely begin to face hitters soon, but he's still probably at least a few weeks away from heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Placed on 60-day IL

Rolison (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list by the Rockies on Saturday. Rolison underwent left shoulder surgery last June, and isn't expected to be ready until the summer months. The first-round pick from 2018 could be a rotation option for Colorado by the end of 2023.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Throws off mound Friday

Rolison (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday, Danielle Allentuck of the Denver Gazette reports. It's an important milestone for Rolison, who had left shoulder surgery last June. The 2018 first-round pick is expected to be game-ready around late May or early June, but it will probably be after the All-Star break before he might be considered for his first big-league promotion.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: On track for spring training

Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt said Friday that Rolison (shoulder) is expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The 25-year-old Rolison didn't pitch in 2022 after ultimately undergoing season-ending left shoulder surgery in mid-June, but he appears to be progressing as anticipated in his rehab and recovery program and looks set to head into spring training with few restrictions, if any. Rolison should get the chance to battle for a back-end spot in the Colorado rotation this spring, but his lack of prior MLB experience in addition to the fact that he's coming off an injury means he's more likely to begin the campaign as a starter at Triple-A Albuquerque.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Shoulder surgery completed

Rolison announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he underwent surgery on his left shoulder in Los Angeles. His surgery was overseen by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache and apparently went according to plan. Rolison confirmed he'll miss the rest of the 2022 season but noted in his post that he expects to be ready to go for the start of the 2023 campaign.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Slated for surgery

Rolison (shoulder) will undergo surgery in the coming weeks, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. Rolison had been sidelined with a shoulder injury since the end of spring training, and the Rockies said this week that he hadn't made as much progress in his recovery as the team had hoped. After visiting with a specialist, the southpaw will undergo a procedure that will likely force him to miss the rest of the season. Rolison hasn't yet made his major-league debut, but it's possible that he'll join Colorado in 2023 as long as he's back to full health.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Progressing slower than expected

Rolison (shoulder) hasn't made as much progress in his recovery as the Rockies had hoped, so he'll visit a specialist next week, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Rolison was placed on the 60-day injured list with a left shoulder strain at the end of spring training, but his injury hasn't improved much over the last several weeks. A better idea of the left-hander's status will likely come into focus after he's examined by a specialist.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Lands on 60-day IL

Rolison was placed on the 60-day injured list Monday with a left shoulder strain. Rolison has been shut down from throwing for two weeks after receiving two anti-inflammatory shots in his left shoulder, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the first two months of the season. The 24-year-old has yet to make his big-league debut and is likely to pitch at Triple-A Albuquerque once healthy.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Facing two-week shutdown

Rolison has received two anti-inflammatory shots in his left shoulder and will be shut down for two weeks, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Rolison was reassigned to minor-league camp in late March, and he was apparently bothered by his shoulder injury throughout spring training. Although he initially thought that he'd be able to play through the injury, he'll take time to recover since his velocity and results were impacted. The southpaw will likely be placed on the 60-day injured list since he'll require time to build up following his shutdown.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Goes to MiLB camp

The Rockies optioned Rolison to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. Rolison was one of four players on the Rockies' 40-man roster that was dispatched to the minors Thursday, leaving Colorado with 47 players remaining at MLB camp. The 24-year-old lefty will likely step into the rotation at Albuquerque, with whom he made 10 starts in 2021. He covered 45.2 innings in those outings, pitching to a 5.91 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Shielded from Rule 5 draft

Rolison was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster on Friday. Rolison will no longer be available for selection in the Rule 5 draft. He'll have a chance to make his big-league debut at some point next season, as he's already made 10 Triple-A starts, but his 5.91 ERA there means he still has to conquer that level before earning his next opportunity.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Cleared to return at Triple-A

Rolison (hand) returned from Triple-A Albuquerque's 7-day injured list Friday and gave up five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings in the affiliate's 5-1 loss. Rolison was sidelined for just over nine weeks with a fractured left hand before he began a three-start rehab assignment in the lower levels of the minors earlier this month. After getting sufficient time to build up, Rolison slotted back into the Albuquerque rotation, where he's expected to remain for the duration of the season. Over four starts at Albuquerque this season, Rolison has posted a 5.71 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB in 17.1 innings.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Rehabbing in ACL

Rolison (hand) began a rehab assignment at the Rockies' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Aug. 12 and has covered 6.1 innings between his first two outings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out nine. Rolison is on the comeback trail after a fractured left hand kept him out of competitive action for just over nine weeks. He covered four innings in his most recent rehab start Monday, so he may only need one or two more turns in the lower levels of the minors before being activated from Triple-A Albuquerque's 7-day injured list.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Recovering from appendicitis

Triple-A Albuquerque placed Rolison on the 7-day injured list June 14 after he had his appendix removed, MLB.com reports. Rockies manager Bud Black said Rolison is expected to be on the shelf for about six weeks. Rolison, one of the Rockies' top pitching prospects in the upper levels of the minors, compiled a 4.38 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 12.1 innings over his first three starts with Albuquerque following his promotion from Double-A Hartford. He's not expected to rejoin the Albuquerque rotation until early August, which could hamper the 23-year-old lefty's chances of receiving a late-season call-up to the majors.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Promoted to Triple-A

Rolison was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Rolison began the minor-league season with Double-A Hartford and made enough progress with his changeup and delivery to receive a promotion early in the year. The left-hander made three starts for Double-A Hartford this year and posted a 3.07 ERA, 20:2 K:BB and 0.89 WHIP in 14.2 innings. Rolison is one of Colorado's top pitching prospects and could make his major-league debut at some point in 2021.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Throws two scoreless innings Sunday

Rolison (1-0) gave up one hit and no walks while failing to strike out any batters over two scoreless innings as he earned the win in Sunday's spring game against the White Sox. Rolison gave up a leadoff double to Yoan Moncada to begin his spring debut Sunday, but he retired the next three batters before pitching a clean fifth inning. Manager Bud Black was pleased with Rolison's performance. "He showed some pitchability," Black said. The southpaw will likely begin the season with Triple-A Albuquerque but could be in line to make his major-league debut at some point in 2021.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Not traveling for road trip

Rolison didn't travel with the Rockies for the season-ending road trip this week, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. The team previously indicated the left-hander would travel with the club for the final trip of the season, but he'll instead face live competition in Arizona in preparation of the instructional league that begins in October. Rolison appeared to have a chance of making his major-league debut, but he'll have to wait until at least 2021.

  • Rockies' Ryan Rolison: Joining team for road trip

Rolison will be included on the Rockies' taxi squad for their season-ending road trip this week, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. One of the organization's top pitching prospects, Rolison looks like he could be under consideration to make his MLB debut during the final week of the regular season. As Groke notes, Rolison threw a side session at Coors Field on Sunday, which would put him on normal rest for a spot start Friday, when the Rockies kick off their series in Arizona with a doubleheader. The Rockies have no other obvious candidate to serve as the sixth man in their rotation this week, so Rolison could get the chance to showcase his skills with the hope of breaking camp with the big club in 2021. The 23-year-old split time between the California and South Atlantic Leagues in 2019, posting a 4.40 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 132 strikeouts in 131 innings.
