Player Outlook
Brice Turang's solid Triple-A season in 2022 did not carry over into any 2023 success at the big league level at the plate. The 23 year old struggled to square up the baseball and the league fed him a heavy diet of fastballs (56%) as they quickly figured out he was unlikely to do much with them as his .224 xBA and .325 xSLG validate. Turangs's redeeming offensive skill was his legs as he used his elite speed to swipe 26 bases in 30 attempts. Turang's fantasy upside is limited by both his weak bat as well as the fact he will not escape the 9th spot of the lineup unless that bat improves. He does have dual-position eligibility on draft day, but even that is not much to elevate his fantasy profile as he does have a remaining option the club can use should Turang not show any improvement at the plate. He can deftly field his position and run the bases, but the bat has to close the gap this season to gain more than end-game fantasy relevancy.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Heads to bench Friday

Turang is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Baltimore. Turang started the past 10 games after sitting Opening Day against a left-handed starter, but he'll take a seat Friday with right-hander Tyler Wells pitching for the Orioles. Andrew Monasterio will handle the keystone and bat eighth.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Pops first homer

Turang went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's loss to the Reds. Owned in fantasy mostly for his speed, Turang posted his first homer of the season Monday night, tagging a 397-foot blast off Graham Ashcraft in the fifth inning. He later added two additional RBI on a double in the next inning. Turang sports a .379/.424/.586 slash line in his 32 plate appearances while establishing himself as Milwaukee's starting second baseman.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Two more thefts

Turang went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Twins. The second baseman is off to a torrid start through four contests, as he's gone 7-for-14 with a league-leading six stolen bases and two doubles. Turang posted just 19 multi-hit performances and 18 extra-base hits in 137 games as a rookie last season, but he now has two hits in each of the past three games.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Swipes three bags in win

Turang went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Mets. Getting the start at second base and batting eighth, Turang reached on singles in the third and ninth inning and was off to the races each time. The 24-year-old infielder swiped 26 bags in 30 attempts as a rookie last year, but his speed might be his only consistent source of fantasy value after he slashed .218/.285/.300 in 448 plate appearances. Turang is 3-for-7 through two games to begin the 2024 campaign, but all three hits were singles and he's struck out three times.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Sitting versus southpaw

Turang is not in the lineup for Friday's season opener against the Mets. Turang will begin the season as the Brewers' primary second baseman, but he's out of the starting nine for Opening Day since lefty Jose Quintana is pitching for New York. Joey Ortiz is manning the keystone while Andruw Monasterio starts at third base.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Locked in at keystone

Brewers manager Pat Murphy confirmed Tuesday that Turang will be the club's starting second baseman Opening Day against the Mets, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The 24-year-old worked as Milwaukee's primary second baseman last season and produced plus-12 defensive runs saved, but he underwhelmed offensively with a .218/.285/.300 slash line, six home runs, 34 RBI and 46 runs in 448 plate appearances. Turang did steal 26 bases in 30 attempts, so he could have some limited fantasy utility in deeper leagues.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Starting strong

Turang went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in Milwaukee's 7-5 loss against Texas on Thursday. Turang is slated to be the Opening Day second baseman, though it's possible Milwaukee could go with other options depending on if his bat remains an issue (.218 batting average across 404 plate appearances in 2023). That the 24-year-old is hitting .375 on an admittedly small three-game spring training sample size is encouraging, however. Turang's plus glove will likely afford him ample leeway, but it's possible Joey Ortiz, Owen Miller or Andruw Monasterio could play more if the hitting woes really drag into the new season.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Sitting against southpaw

Turang isn't in the Brewers' lineup Saturday against the Cubs. Left-hander Jordan Wicks will be on the hill for the Cubs to begin Saturday's contest, meaning the left-handed bat of Turang will stay put in Milwaukee's dugout. Andruw Monasterio will fill in at the keystone and bat eighth.

Turang isn't in the Brewers' lineup Saturday against Miami. Lefty Jesus Luzardo will start on the bump for the Marlins on Saturday, so the left-handed bat of Turang will stay put in the Brewers' dugout. Andruw Monasterio will fill in at second base and bat eighth while Turang sits.

Andruw Monasterio will get the nod at second base while Turang's streak of 21 consecutive starts comes to an end.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Records three hits, swipes two bags

Turang went 3-for-5 with one run scored and two stolen bases in Friday's win over the Yankees. Turang showed off his wheels Friday by stealing two bags and mixing in an infield single among his three hits. The 23-year-old has 20 stolen bases in 24 attempts this season, but the three hits only lifted his batting average to a paltry .222. While the speed is nice, Turang has produced only 17 extra-base hits on the season in 356 at-bats, and none since Aug. 7.

Turang isn't in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers. • Brewers' Brice Turang: Fills box score Monday

Turang went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 12-1 win over the Rockies. Turang did a little bit of everything in this productive effort. He's hit well in August, going 9-for-20 (.450) with two homers, three steals and seven RBI over seven contests this month. The infielder is now slashing .225/.297/.345 with six homers, 14 steals, 27 RBI, 28 runs scored, eight doubles and three triples over 296 plate appearances this season. He got the start at shortstop Monday with Willy Adames resting, but Turang has seen the bulk of his playing time at second base lately.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Launches fifth homer

Turang went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's win over the Pirates. Turang extended Milwaukee's lead to 8-1 with a three-run homer off Mitch Keller in the fifth inning. It's Turang's fifth long ball of the year and just his second in his last 50 games. While he hasn't provided frequent power, the rookie infielder has been swinging the bat well, going 9-for-20 (.450) over his last six games. Overall, Turang is slashing .221/.289/.333 with 27 runs scored, 25 RBI and 12 stolen bases across 284 plate appearances this season.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Provides offense in win

Turang went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two RBI and two runs in Tuesday's 6-4 win against the Nationals. Turang still has just one extra-base hit in his past eight games, but he delivered plenty of value on his two singles. It's just the fifth occasion this season the 23-year-old has collected multiple RBI in a game and just the fourth time he's scored multiple runs. Turang has come alive at the plate over the past week, having gone 7-for-19 with a double, two walks and two runs in addition to Tuesday's run production.

Turang is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies. Turang will head to the bench as Brewers manager Craig Counsell goes heavy on right-handed bats against Philadelphia southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Jahmai Jones will pick up the starting nod at second base in place of Turang.
