Brice Turang's solid Triple-A season in 2022 did not carry over into any 2023 success at the big league level at the plate. The 23 year old struggled to square up the baseball and the league fed him a heavy diet of fastballs (56%) as they quickly figured out he was unlikely to do much with them as his .224 xBA and .325 xSLG validate. Turangs's redeeming offensive skill was his legs as he used his elite speed to swipe 26 bases in 30 attempts. Turang's fantasy upside is limited by both his weak bat as well as the fact he will not escape the 9th spot of the lineup unless that bat improves. He does have dual-position eligibility on draft day, but even that is not much to elevate his fantasy profile as he does have a remaining option the club can use should Turang not show any improvement at the plate. He can deftly field his position and run the bases, but the bat has to close the gap this season to gain more than end-game fantasy relevancy.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Sitting against lefty

Turang is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. Turang doesn't operate in a strict platoon at second base, but he'll sit Sunday against Colorado southpaw Kyle Freeland. Andruw Monasterio will start at the keystone and bat ninth in the series finale.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Collects three hits, swipes bag

Turang went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Cardinals. Turang got to second base three times in the contest and reached third base twice, but Milwaukee was unable to bring him home. It was nonetheless a strong performance by the second baseman, who collected multiple extra-base hits in a game for just the fourth time this season. Turang's swipe of third base in the sixth inning was his 41st theft of the campaign, third most in the majors.

Overall, Turang's slashing .255/.321/.359 on the season with seven homers, 61 runs scored and 51 RBI through 516 plate appearances.

Turang is absent from the lineup for the first game of Friday's doubleheader in Cincinnati. Turang will surely be back in there for the nightcap, but he'll sit out the afternoon tilt. Andruw Monasterio will play second base and bat ninth for the Brewers in the first game.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Swipes two bags Thursday

Turang went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and two stolen bases in a 6-4 win over the Dodgers on Thursday. Turang began the bottom of the first inning with a double and subsequently crossed the plate on Jackson Chourio's two-run homer. That wasn't the end of Turang's production, as he reached base two more times and stole a base in each instance. The second baseman began August in a 5-for-35 funk, but he's gone 3-for-5 with two walks and three thefts over his past two contests. His two swipes Thursday moved him back into second place in the majors with 36 steals on the campaign.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Triple, stolen base in win

Turang went 1-for-2 with an RBI triple, a stolen base and a run scored while also drawing a walk in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. Turang walked and stole second in his first trip to the plate before adding an RBI triple and also scoring a run in the second inning to tie the game 3-3. The shortstop had gone 0-for-11 over his last three starts before posting his third triple of the season in Wednesday's win. He's batting just .162 (6-for-37) since the start of August with two extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs scored, while the stolen base marked his 34th of the campaign.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Taking seat versus southpaw

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Drives in lone run in win

Turang went 1-for-2 with a walk, one RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Cubs. Offense was at a premium Tuesday, and Turang's RBI single in the eighth inning was the lone run of the game. The second baseman has gone just 2-for-18 with four RBI over four contests since the All-Star break. He's gone 14 games without a multi-hit effort, but he's enough of a speed threat to stay atop the order even when he's not hitting at his best. For the year, Turang has 31 steals, six home runs, 42 RBI, 47 runs scored and a .268/.332/.376 slash line over 97 contests.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Reaches 30-steal mark

Turang went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Nationals. Turang has struggled at the plate in July, going 9-for-48 (.188) over his first 13 games this month. That's also put a damper on his best attribute, his speed, as he's been able to log just two steals on three attempts in that span. Turang has 30 thefts on 35 attempts this year -- good for second in the majors behind only the Reds' Elly De La Cruz -- while adding six home runs, 38 RBI, 45 runs scored and a .277/.341/.390 slash line through 93 contests.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Collects two hits, steals base

Turang went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday. Turang's speed was on display in the defeat -- he plated the Brewers' first run with an RBI bunt single in the third inning and followed the hit with a steal of second base. The swipe was his 28th of the season, second most in the majors. Fantasy managers should have been aware of Turang's speed coming into the campaign after he swiped 26 bags in 137 games last year, but the second baseman's other offensive stats have been a pleasant surprise. He's slashing .290/.354/.406 with five homers, 33 RBI and 39 runs through 317 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Blasts homer in loss

Turang went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to the Angels. Turang plated the final run of the contest with his 419-foot solo shot in the fifth inning. The second-year infielder has gone deep four times through 68 games this season after hitting six homers in 137 contests last year. Turang's skill set is more centered on speed than power, so anything fantasy managers get in the homer department is a nice bonus. The speedster has made a big impact on the rosters of fantasy managers who had the foresight to pick him up late in fantasy drafts or on the waiver wire, as he's slashing .291/.359/.406 on the season with 25 RBI, 35 runs and 26 stolen bases in 27 attempts.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Reaches three times, steals base

Turang went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs in Saturday's win over the Tigers. The Brewers' primary leadoff man started off the game with a walk, then moved to second and scored on a single by Christian Yelich. Turang would reach on hits in his next two at-bats and scored again in the third, giving him his seventh game with at least two runs scored this season. The second baseman also added his 23rd stolen base of the season, second to only Elly De La Cruz in MLB. Turang's batting average sits at .307 for the year.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Idle against lefty

Turang is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies. Turang will dodge a matchup with southpaw Cristopher Sanchez on Tuesday, joining fellow lefties Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick on the bench. Andruw Monasterio will play second and bat ninth.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Homers, steals base in win

Turang went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and a stolen base Saturday in Boston. His third home run of the season came in the eighth inning off reliever Zack Kelly. Turang had drawn a walk and notched his 19th stolen base of the season earlier in the contest. After going 26-for-30 in stolen base attempts as a rookie, Turang is now a perfect 19-for-19 in 2024. Only Elly De La Cruz has more this season with 31.

Turang is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. The lefty-hitting Turang finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row while the Marlins bring another southpaw (Jesus Luzardo) to the hill. Andruw Monasterio will fill in at second base for Turang.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Sitting out versus lefty

Turang is not in the lineup for Monday's contest in Miami. The Marlins are rolling with southpaw Ryan Weathers, so the left-handed hitting Turang will take a seat. Andruw Monasterio will occupy second base for the Brewers.

Turang went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and a steal in Sunday's loss to Houston. Turang doubled, swiped third base and scored in the first inning. He later knocked a two-run single in the seventh. He's been swinging a hot bat all season and is officially entering breakout territory. After registering a brutal .585 OPS through 448 plate appearances in 2023, Turang owns a .314/.369/.431 slash line through 43 games this season. He's perfect in 18 stolen base attempts and has produced 15 multi-hit games.

  • Brewers' Brice Turang: Getting Wednesday off

Turang is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates. The Brewers are facing left-hander Martin Perez in a day game after a night game, so manager Pat Murphy likely viewed Wednesday's contest as an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Turang a breather. Turang had batted out of the leadoff spot in each of the last seven games, going 8-for-27 (.296 average) with two stolen bases, three RBI and three runs.
